I don't understand how to make a loop play constantly??Help!

I was just wondering why the loop just won't play constantly? I followed all the directions. when recording a sample on a sequence i hit the sample with the loop on and i still have to hold it down. Why won't it play constantly, without making the sequence shorter to match it? Doesn;t that defeat the purpose of a loop? help me please.

As far as I am aware you have to set the tempo and the number of bars so that the loop ends at the end of your defined looping sequence (eg 2 bars). The mpc is first and foremost a sequencer, not a looper. If you are after simply a looper then a looping pedal would do the biz for a fraction of the hardware capability! I am new to the mpc world myself so I may be wrong about this, anyone else?

I'm having the same problem with looping a sample... I have to hold it down to get it to loop. Did you ever figure this out?

Yes, and thanks, but I think I figured it out. I have to record a sequence to be able to loop something. I was trying to just loop a sample by pressing that pad and letting it loop. I don't think the MPC works that way. However, by creating a short sequence and holding down the pad, I loop the sequence and get basically the same effect.

Am I right about all that?

Yeah, I always loop by sequence. Just record a sample in one shot playback and make it so that it loops when the sequence repeats.

OK, so on a somewhat unrelated note, I got the sequence to loop and it sounds fine, except each sample is about half as loud in [SEQUENCE] mode as it is in [TRIM] mode. When I'm editing the loop, the volume level is great, but in [SEQUENCE] mode it's about half the volume no matter how hard I hit the pad.

My velocity levels are set to 0 so that each sample plays it's loudest no matter the velocity with which the pad is hit.

Have you experienced this?

Could be that the sample volume is set at 70 (preset) not 100 (max).

Hit Mode, then hit program

Scroll to sample level

Hit down cursor

Wind up the volume to 100

1. hold pad first
2. hold down shift but don't let go of pad
3. keep holding down shift, now let go of pad
4. now let go of shift

Only will work in 'Note on' mode, since loops won't work in one-shot

On which MPC and which OS does this work?

MPC 500 - I'm running the latest OS (1.13)

It's a really cool feature that's not documented in the manual. I guess it was added as a feature for the OS update.

Make sure the pad you want to loop is in NOTE ON mode - it doesn't work otherwise - and don't try hitting SHIFT with the pad. Follow the instructions. It's all about the holding and the order in which that happens.

Well, it doesn't work on the 2500 at least.

Yeah it's not working on the 1000 either...damn got all excited when i read it then ran home and couldn't get it happening.

Why doesn't the revised manual include this (if indeed it does work)??
