Erasing OS2

ok..
ive put akai os on...then loaded up wavs till memory is full...then put on the jj os 4.99b and still same thing

it seems to be something when you can put 2 os's on but how do you go back to just 1...and when you install os2 ...those who have os2 does it still say tap tempo for your os1 version?

yes, once you upgrade to OS2, you can switch back and forth just by holding the tap tempo button as you power on. i'm still not sure why you haven't just left OS2 on there, it's not taking up space on your hard drive, cf card or RAM (unless you're running it of course).

i havent taken it off its the fact i cant just thought it was a little wierd...

well it is kinda weird, but it's really doing no harm.

i imagine this would only be an issue if you were trying to sell your 1000 to someone thats anal about that type of stuff....ALSO for any people sending in their 1000 for a warranty repair (i imagine that would be an easy way to have your warranty voided).

i got no warranty on mine and i don't plan to sell it, so none of this bothers me....but i could see this becoming a problem for some.

whoops. for some reason i thought he was saying that even while booting from the Akai OS, he was still seeing the JJ os select screen.

if he just means he sees that screen when he uses OS1 then whatever.
i imagine the bootup time woud still be the same even if he got rid of OS2 completely, so why even stress it?

Is this still the case... and we can never completely remove OS2 from our machines? Pretty strange...

I imagine this has something to do with the way that JJ OS remembers System IDs and unlock passwords.

There's some sector of the memory that is protected somewhere it seems

A few posts here seem to allude to OS2 being stored in some different area of the internal memory... Can anyone clarify?

JJ already explained that the current version of OS1 contains some OS2 code which stacks to OS1, same will be true for XL.
What this means is when you install OS 1 it is actually installing code that automatically links to OS2.
It's how come you can't install OS2 without OS1.
I have installed 4.99 OS1 on a machine that had never seen OS2 and got the boot option.
