Making your own boxes/desks

Anyone have any opinions, ideas, advice for making your own shelf/boxes for holding your records?

I was looking at TTlab and was like damn, those Sefour boxes are expensive. I know I could draw up some dimensions super quick and get some wood from Lowes and probably have a better end product anyway..

anyone have any dimensions for a desk though? that would hold two tables, a mixer and some records?

just measure it yourself

it'll depend on what TTs, what mixer, how much extra room you want, how high you like your setup to sit, etc

ppl can't do something like this for you

I thought about custom-making some record boxes several times, but no matter how you look at it, the price of something off the shelve usually beats the hassle of drawing it up, having it cut and assembling it yourself properly.

right, I understand that, I guess if you haven't personally made something then don't reply. I was looking for advice from people who have tried this themselves, not from someone who would restate what I had already said.

the boxes are $65 and the desk is like $200 plus shipping too.

I guess I'll draw something up and post a how-to on what I come up with so it'll be of use to other people in the future

Sorry, but he's right about that point. You can easily measure yourself what you need, I mean that's the point in custom-making something. There's no law prescribing you what dimensions your desk needs to have

I saw those prices, yea they are not cheap. But remember, to get something as decent-looking as this, you need some skills and also one or two decent tools. And strictly speaking, you would have to count the time you spend for it in as well. And I have built some simple furniture myself already.

If you want to make a desk, take care that it stands firmly. Sometimes just screwing four legs underneath a plate is just too wobbly. The desk I have my turntables on is about 870 cm high, that's a good height for me, and I have it secured to the wall to make it rock solid.

I saw these a while back and couldn't understand how they could charge so much for that. Besides if you add in the shipping costs and whatnot it just makes no sense. Get an Expedit at Ikea or use MDF to build your own. MDF is reallly solid and cheap. And if you calculate cost of materials an al depending on where you live it's worth it.
A couple of years ago I was convinced I could make my own cases for my turntables and made the BIG mistake of using pine wood which made the cases heavier than the Turntables. In the end I could't use them for anything at all.

I've seen people use these IKEA expedit shelves and turn them sideways for their dj gear on top and records on the bottom for $80:

Make sure whatever it is u make that u get good quality wood, the last thing you want is for it to split while you're making it.

you get 2 for 60 they to be stacked but i brokwe them in two one hold the TT's and the Records the other has my beat gear, i had a water leak so i had to tear it down thats why it looks bare right now.
