Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By bcitral Tue Mar 11, 2008 10:23 pm
Well Ive eventially got around to getting a 2000 classic, so Im a newbie to the world of MPC. Been using Emu's for many years so im not new to sampling.
What storage options are available to the classic? is it just scsi?
Has anyone put a card reader in a classic not the XL? can you run any OS other than the akai one? Has anyone ever develpoed a hacked OS?

So many questions, now lets break!!

HEy bcitral,

well to answer your questions:
1. It has o a SCSI only
2. The problem with the cardreader is that the mpc has not a internal IDE like the XL, also the problem should be the system version, for the xl akai released a new version that works for the card readers.
3. No you can use the 2000 classic os only, so there's also not a cracked os like the jj os on the 1K or 2500

thanks mightmenc,

Are there any limitations to the scsi storage? can the mpc see and format external hard drives like it can zip discs.

Im just trying to work out a good workflow for the 2000. If it can't read fat discs how can you copy samples to a zipdrive from a pc to work with. Does CDxtract work with the mpc?

2kxl v 120 is to be able to read 1gb cf's.

I use 2 x 512mb cf's on v114.

Same limitations as fat/fat16 format itself.

If it can't read fat discs how can you copy samples to a zipdrive from a pc to work with.
Format zip on computer using fat/fat16 and use only 8 character filenames, transfer wavs
snds with that fat/fat16 zip to mpc. Use 2k os172, it has save as wav support.

Does CDxtract work with the mpc?
Try it and u tell us.

CDXtract can only convert soundfiles and sampler images, it does not create discs in a sampler format.

In the 2kxl it tells you what files formats he 2kxl uses....

Cheers Guys,

Ill let you know how the CDXtract works sending files and patches. Ive been using it for years but its been a while since I used it last. I managed all my Emu (akai) banks with it. You can send directly to the EMU HD so its pretty cool for sample management. Of course Soundforge for ctreating new banks with PC edited wavs to start with. To be honest I wanted rid of my SCSI chain.

I think Ill give the 2000 and try but maybe I should have gone for the 2000XL or the new series for ease.

All the best B

2kxl has a atapi connection on the motherboard, 2k doesn't. That explains why so many people are able to easily place a zip or mcd inside. The SAME 40pin desktop atapi devices that you find everywhere else that fits within the floppy drive..

CdExtract I know about but I've never used it with my 2kxl though.

Well the 2k arrived the other night. Why oh why didn't I get 1 years ago. teal simple to use.

I had the lid off and saw a ide style socket next to the floppy connector, is this the internl scsi?

No the 2k has no internal SCSI connector (at least not by default).
