Audio thru?

I want to combine my Microkorg with a MPC500. Is this possible w/o sampling? Does the MPC500 has audio thru? AFAIK the MPC1000 does have this feature, but this machine is too big and not battery-operated ...

There is no audio thru as such, but in record mode you can hear both the mpc output and the audio from the audio inputs at the same time. The mpc output is restricted to playback of a sequence though, so you can't bash the pads or do track mutes at the same time.

Your alternative would be a small mixer - I picked one up on ebay for 30 and has been invaluable as my gear collection grows.

I already own a mixer but more than two items are not really mobile. Beside this, battery-operated mixers are either expensive or crappy.

Record mode is your option then! Don't see how audio thru could be incorporated into a JJOS mind you...

If I remember right, the audio thru feature was introduced with MPC1K software 2.0. Whenever Akai will update the MPC500 OS, there is a little little chance

I predict Akai will never again update the OS. They are hopeless. JJ is our only hope, and an incredibly faint one at that...

To be frank... I don't think that we will ever get any OS update from AKAI or from JJ... I would love an update as it seems to me that the MPC500 could be made so much more powerful with only a few improvements.
But I think that if someone was planning on improving the MPC 500 OS, they would already talk about it and they would not keep it secret until it is ready (and say "surprise, here is a new OS"). As far as none is talking about such an update, it seems clear to me that there won't be any...
