I got a question for SEASONED MPC 500 users....

Is there ANY way to make the whole sample play in TRIM? To be a bit more clear, on an MPC 2000XL, when you're in TRIM and you hit a pad to hear the sample, it plays the entire sample by pressing the pad once...but on the 500, when in TRIM, the you have to hold the pad down to make the ENTIRE sample play...

So, the question is how can I get the samples in TRIM to play like they do on the XL? Is it possible to shut NOTE OFF off when in TRIM?

I have checked the manual as well as searched the forum, but I didn't find what I was looking for....

So, I hope someone can help me out, and do it in a proffesional manner (leave out any dumb comments about searching and reading manuals....) Considering that I've helped hundreds of people on here with ANYTHING I could....

I wish i had another answer for you, but I don't think that there is a way to do what you are talking about (I know what you are talking about, I had a 2000xl for a week). I've gotten around it by quickly switching between "play to", "play from" and "play all" - in addition to tapping the pad rapidly as I adjust the start point. Glad to see you like the 500, ask anything you need - I don't think I've ever told anyone to use the search function, especially someone helpful like yourself.

Thanks for the reply....I'm gonna try that, but I hope there is a way to do what I'm asking, because I'm used to trimming like that... So far, that is MY ONLY complaint for the 500...

But, I do appreciate the straight answer....There are so many smart asses on here....That's part of the reason I barely come on any more...I mean, I just look at it like, in the time it takes to think up some smart ass bullshit, you could have just answered the question at hand....I've helped HUNDREDS of people on here without being a dick...I have taught a TON of people how to drop dope basslines, I've given advice on every topic that I could, and I also made a thorough guide on how to replace the screen on the 2000XL (it's now a sticky at the TOP of the 2000/2000XL forum)... That's the only reason I ask people to skip the nonsense.

I mean, I don't mind a smart ass comment followed by answering the question, but when my mom died in March of last year, I came on here to tell everyone what happened, and THe VERY FIRST REPLY was "HAHA...YOU'RE MOM DIED!"

But...Anyways....

If anybody knows if there is a way to do what I'm asking, please help...If not, I will let this post sink deep intot the abyss!!!

Ive got a question for both of you or anyone for that matter

in TRIM MODE on the 500 is there anyway to chop a long sample into peices (for example 12) and asign the individual samples into the pads.

i seen someone do it on a 1000.

and also on the topic....sorry i have no clue it really drives me crazy though i know exactly what your talking about.

i actually had 2 or 3 times after being in trim mode, and after playing several pads when i go back all the pads are stuck on stupid and play only the sample i was using in trim mode.....
even pads that had no sample asigned to them

To chop a sample into pieces - Set the original (with the first start point) to pad 1. Then extract a copy to pad 2, trim it to start at the second point, repeat however many times. It doesn't take too long once you're used to it.

Out of curiosity, on a 500, when you chop a sample in trim mode, then select edit, can't you just use the option to create a new program and have it automagically assign the samples to pads? Does this on the 2500.

Im currently at work so I cant verify but i thought you could do this by pressing the top row of pads while in trim mode. I know for a fact its in the manual.

KCIRCLE, thanks for jacking my thread.... I'll answer your question, even though that is the type question that frustrates most on here, because that is in the manual....

That is the ENTIRE purpouse of an MPC...To chop long samples into pieces and place the smaller samples on pads?

That part is simple, when in TRIM, use the start and end points to find the EXACT sample you wish to duplicate, then go to EDIT, and select COPY.

That will put your smaller sample in its own frame and now you have to got into PROGRAM to assign it to a pad....


Now, I am guessing that by the LACK of responses to MY question....that there is no way to do what I was asking....

well i saw that this thread contained a reference to TRIM mode and so i figured it wouldnt hurt to ask a question about TRIM mode since it was being discussed.

so after that.... i thought to make a thread so people could see in the subject part of the thread what the question was gonna be about. in case nobody checked your precious little thread.

also im not an idiot! i understand the purpose and many uses for the mpc.
i was simply looking for a shortcut to do something that i already do.

i did try to copy the sample in trim mode but after that all the other samples in other pads(wich were all originally the same sample) changed there start points??? i guess i'll try again and use the program mode to asign it
