tracking with cool edit

i have my mpc sync with cool edit. i dont have 8 outs so i have to do each track at a time. my friend told me if you have a 8 bar beat set the bars to 9 on the mpc and start the mpc at bar 9 so when the cool edit is recording you have a empty space at the beginning of the beat so it will be easier to edit. you do each track like that. then once you have done that high light the tracks and loop duplicate and your good to go. is this correct way to do it? it just seems like a pain in the ass. he does it on protools so you can eq each indivaul track.

I sync the mpc using Cubase, and i do something similar. When you've finished your sequence, go into songmode on the mpc and insert a blank sequence of 2 bars before your original sequence. Now record all your tracks one by one, and you'll end up with 2 blank bars in cooledit too, erase this, or move all the tracks.
The blank bars are there to allow Cooledit to catch up to the mpc's timecode. This only takes a second, but if you start recording your seq right on bar 1 the timing will be off with more tracks.

word, do you have the mpc as the slave or the master? i have mine hooked up where when i hit record on cool edit the mpc starts playing or should i hook it up where i hit play on the mpc cool edit starts recording?

what I do is go through all my sequences and mute all the tracks except the one Im recording then go into song mode and place an empty sequence at the beginning of song mode reason being I have some problems when recording where CEP cuts off the first millisecs of whatever im recording. Once I have my blank sequence in song mode I hit play and CEP starts recording my 1 unmuted track. when its done just go back through all my sequences unmute track 2 and mute the track I just recorded do this for however many tracks you have. Its a pain in the ass but hey you can always get the eight outs and finish track in 1 or 2 passes

How do you sync Cool edit with the mpc? I am trying to do it but having a hard time.

mpc midi in> pc midi out

In CEP click options then click Midi trigger enbable and also SMTPE Slave enable you should be set. Choose a track to record into in CEP and hit play on MPC

i track into cool edit through my mpc as well but i dont sync my mpc with cool edit.

say i have a total of 10 tracks used, and i make my final sequence in song mode.

after thats done i will insert an empty sequence before the song starts, normally just a bar or two.

then ill program just a high hat on the first beat first bar for all ten tracks

every track will have that click in it 1 bar before the beat drops, afterwards i just cut the silence in front of the hat, line up all tracks so they coincide and then just silence the hat.
