start off with midi cables. You have two sound modules (triton and fantom) there is an in and out for each. SOO you need 4 cables. Get 6' cables. The cheap ones are fine. Then look at the back of your mpc. You will see 4 midi plugs. IN A & b, and out 1&2. hook up the cables hand shake method: i.e. in A on mpc to out of triton. in B on mpc to out on fantom. Then out 1 to in on the triton, and out 2 to in on fantom.
Basically realize that (on the mpc) In A and out 1 are pairs of midi plugs(so you want both of these going to one piece of equipment-triton for example).
Now i only know how to setup the triton to transmit midi, i have no clue onthe fantom, but its the same idea.
TRITON: once cables are in. and its setup, always start the triton first. Then once its booted up, then boot up the mpc.
once the triton is setup, you will use "seq" mode on the triton, to pick all your sounds for what tracks you want, even though you will not actually use the triton sequencer, but you will use the mpc sequencer, to control the tracks you see in "seq" mode (you will see below, that the tracks on the triton, correspond to midi channels controlled by the mpc)
Go to global mode on the triton. Then go into the menu. select the midi page. Turn local control off (this is optional. basically it turns the sound engine messages controled by the keyboard of the triton off, however now the mpc controls it so you will still use the keyboard- there has to be midi timing coming from either the mpc or triton itself for the keyboard to play, we just turned it off so now its on the mpc) if you dont turn local control off(technically everything will still work but), then you have to manually change the tracks in "seq"(on triton) mode to correspond with the tracks on the mpc, if its off, you can just use the mpc to switch tracks......do it and this wont sound so complicated when you see what i mean.
YOU have to do this otherwise things will get messy: then change the timing control from Internal to EXternal. This means that the mpc will be the timing master i.e. the bpm of mpc is used)
then finally "write global settings" Rebooth the triton. Then turn the mpc on.
Go to "seq" mode on the triton, look at all the track, pick sounds for whater tracks.
Now go to the mpc. On the mpc go to track one, where track one says"drum1, drum 2, etc. switch it until it says midi, then turn the "off" to "input A ch 1" (something to that effect)
this means that track one will control midi channel 1 on the triton (midi channel 1 on the triton is track one in Seq mode) midi channel 2 corresponds to track 2 on the triton, so on so forth.
On the mpc the mpc tracks do not have to correspond to the tracks on the triton, just the midi channels do i.e. you can have track 5 use track 1(midi channel 1) on the triton, or say track 1 on the mpc use midi channel 4 on the triton (track 4 on triton)
get it? now the sequencer of the mpc will control everything on the triton.
