well, he painted his on by hand. letter by letter apparently. so I was wrong about the template thing. but maybe his old thread will give yall some tips?

He also did that 2000. It was silver and black with black pads and buttons. He did pust all his text on by hand using dry transfer.

What is dry transfer?

anti sticker also, seen an mpc with sticker labels and it looks tacky.

if it`s done well, you won`t be able to see a difference.....

I agree, but this was horrible. Like instead of cutting out each individual letter, he had strips.

I saw a mpc that got painted with a spray can,but without taking the pads off or any knobs.also horrible....
I can`t imagine forat painting those mpcs ,they do know how to handle their stickers....to mask the mpc, is nearly impossible as the numbers are just 3 to 4 millimeters high!
those wet sticking stickers I talked about are that thin, when they are clear coated, you can`t even feel that there`s something below the coat....
and they are clear, you won`t see anything from the sticker itself, just what`s been printed on it...........................

yea i finished product isnt as glossy as i thought it would be for starters its looks a little more faded than it does when your putting it together on the screen. the material doesnt feel as durable or as stickable as it was hyped up to be. ill do a mock setup with the style flip over the mpc and snap a pic of it.

We will make you one with a glossier laminate and send it to you free of charge if you would like....

I would have to respectfully disagree with you though on the "it's not durable" though

We put these on all the rentals at our shop and have yet to see any damage to the top of them...we even had Mix Master Mike play on a TT56 with a StyleFlip applied and it shows no wear and tear at all and he left it on for the whole show.

IM GUNNA END IT RIGHT NOW RETARDS...

I got your attention yet?

Good. Now calm down. you DO NOT need button labels, and they ACTUALLY SLOW YOU DOWN.

Ready to listen more?

Good. I just taught a friend in 3 hours (absolutely everything) how to use the XL, WIT NO LABLZ.

Think about it this way...

shift+4... move 1
F buttons... don't count, screen displays info

Shift+5... move 2

Shift+6... move 3

Shift+7... move 4

... Im not going to keep writing it down like that, but there are basically 8 main moves to use the XL... THATS IT!

so all of you that "rely" on your buttons are actually slower because of it.

Think about the time it takes to visually look at your 16 levels button, read it, and then press it... when you really know where it is already and could just swing that club you have for your fingers down and mash it.

If you have owned your mpc for over a year, get over it and don't worry about the labels, There are more important fish to fry, like learning midi, and developing your own mixing technique. Chances are you only use about 5 moves anyway, being so novice and all.

Ever stop and think that for some of us, it goes beyond what we NEED to use the damn thing? If I choose to sell it, it needs to be labeled. There's no reason for it to NOT be labeled.

But way to get ignorant for no reason... truly...

much cleaner look i think ! ...but beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Yeah it looks extra stealth like...But I think it would look very nice if you have the labels in a different grey/antracite kind of colour so that they're really subtle, but there nonetheless...

I know what you're saying... that would probably look very cool too.

About labels in general: Why not take the finest marker you can find, make shure it won't dissolve by the clearcoating, and just write down the most important info ? Then you can really personalize it.. and don't have to bother looking for some prefab letters. Probably easier and cheaper too ! That's what i would have done.

I agree with The Grublet: i really didn't need the labels anymore after a year or so.. can even blind type samplenames and stuff,hehe..
One of my musical partners actually works faster on my MPC now than he did before i blacked it out !! He can't believe it himself !
But you can't speak for others i think...
If someone wants/ needs labels on his own MPC, how can you argue with that ?

yeah,retarded....the simple things in live are the best!
I think it depends on what level of customization you want it to be.your mpc looks like painted, some want it to look like it was made that way directly from akai....
by the way....what about colouring your buttons?that grey on black looks a little poor I think....

This topic needs more pics !!

Not customized of course but this is the back of my old MPC
Image
And the front , but here i switched casings for a while. The blue MPC is now the black one
Image
just some sickers of course, but i did like the black front on the original color.

Maybe just post some pics of customized MPC's you like, but aren't necessarily yours ?
I'd like to see them !

btw: a totaly grind down to the metal MPC with all black buttons would look sweet too . Kind of like the se3 but totally bare metal.
