I get what you're saying, I just don't **** with midi ever. There's two ways to add your keys to your song.
1. MIDI - this is raw data, when you connect your keys to your MPC and record it will just record Velocity (volume) Pitch (what keys you hit) and start and end times for the notes. The actual sound will be played from your keyboard THROUGH your MPC, meaning even if you record, if the keys are unplugged: no sound. You can mix down the signal when the two are connected or possibly record the actual audio into the MPC (like I said, I don't **** with MIDI)
2. Rec In - Connect your keys to your MPC with 1/4in cables (the size of the two inputs on the MPC) go from R to R, L to L.
Go to record mode, hit play. Your drums will be playing, then hit "do it" on the MPC - this starts the recording process on the MPC, it WON'T record the drums that are playing from the machine, just whatever's going into the input (your keys). Then trim the audio in trim mode, assign it to a pad. What you just played is now a sample, and can be played with a pad, or chopped into many pads. You can adjust the start and end point of your new sample(s).
