Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By sneakerfreak Fri Mar 14, 2008 6:04 am
hi i just got adobe audition 3.0, and i was wondering if anyone has used their mpc with this program? I am contemplating trying to track a few of my beats with Audition and was wondering if anyone here might have any experiences using these two together.

thanks

If you mean how to sync them, then this is how:

1. Go to edit > preferences. In preferences, select the SMPTE/MTC tab. Set your MIDI out for sync (or input if you want the MPC as master).

2. Go to multi-track view (you can only sync in multi-track btw). Here, right-click on the time-line and select your frame rate (fps) in 'display time format' (say, SMPTE 25 - but it doesn't matter as long as it's the same as in the MPC).

3. In the MPC, do the same in the MIDI/other screen. It is probably best to slave the MPC while recording, so select the input and set it to MTC (MIDI time code) with the correct frame rate.

4. Press play on the MPC, and it should say "Waiting for MTC input" or something like that. Press play on AA3 and the MPC should now follow if your connections are all go.

You should leave an empty bar at the beginning of whatever you are recording, because MTC takes a little time to sync up - this way you ensure your MPC has time to catch up.

That should be it!

And welcome to the forums. :)

I just bought AA3, and I love it, having finally upgraded from CEP2. :)

Have been putting the trial through it's paces though, and syncing my MPC was the first thing I tried.

hey lumens i followed those exact instructions but audition 3 and my mpc wont sync. the mpc will only say waiting for midi timecode when you sync out. i have midi out from the firebox to midi in on the mpc. any ideas why it's not working?

Hey again...

I had just got AA3 when I wrote that, and quickly tried if sync works...

Actually it works until you arm a track!!! (as I found out when I tried to get some real work done) Then AA3 won't sync anymore, and I tore my hair out trying to figure out why - turns out AA3 switches off sync when you arm a track for recording. Apparently this has been the case from AA1.5 onwards.

I need the MPC to sync to my sequencer since I have midi clock coming out of the MPC to other hardware, and it can't send both at once.

My workaround is to use Cool Edit Pro 2 to track my hardware with sync, and then load up the sesion into AA3.

But you could always use the MPC as master, then you won't have this problem.

Edit: You do get them to sync up with AA just playing back, right?

I have a firebox too.. it should have came with a MIDI break-out cable/dongle. Mine did. It attaches to the back of the unit.
