I have been using short samples no longer than 2 or 3 seconds for a while and I just recently started to get into looping long samples that are around 7 to 10 seconds. The problem is most of my projects are around the 90 to 80 bpm tempo and when I try to time stretch the sample loops they have a very low bpm like 12.3 or something and I noticed when I rotate the data wheel by the time I reach my projects tempo which is 80 or 90 it doesnt say do it what am I doing wrong? I also noticed I can type the bpm in for the new bpm for the sample and hit do it but when I go back to see the speed it shows that its on 12.3? sometimes I feel like the bpm for the sample did change but at the same time I feel like im not doing something right. I appreciate the feedbacks!

I almost never timestretch but I'm thinking the numbers stop increasing because its mathmatically impossible to stretch the sample as much as you're wanting it to stretch.

Not sure about the second part of your sample.

I prefer to use the pitch feature or chop the sample up into pieces

Ok heres the deal, Im not in front of my mpc right now but this is fairly simple. When bpm matching the sample, Your tempo is not realy 12.3, you have to change the value of (fuk I cant remeber the name of the option I actually think it might look like the timing window with a 1/4 1/8 1/16) But when you change this value the tempo will jump up to like around the 80 then if you change it again it will jump to like 140 then 280 Now once u get the value that is closest to the bpm of the project your working on Go ahead and speed up or slow down the sample to the desired tempo. I can walk you all the way through the process when I can get home in front of my mpc and look at the screens.

If you want to get the EXACT bpm of the sample you are working on first, so you can set your project bpm to fit the sample all you do is, Get the sample looping PERFECTLY now go into the timestretch/bpm screen and it will give u the exact tempo of the sample so you can match the bpm of the project to the sample and avoid timestretch all together.

Once again I will go into more details when I get back in front of my mpc

go to trim,

press edit.

roll the wheel.

Timestretch:

says: Filename, ratio, preset and adjust.

the bpms from in the timestretch screen are not a good way to go

I think its faster when you first make your (new, off speed) sample in its own sequence [temporarily, to get tempo], and make it loop the way you want it to lay in, then do a little math.

say you want to make the sample that is too long (say 89.5 bars when looping correctly the playing sample you need to time-stretch), a little shorter, to fit the rest of your song which is at 86.5...

you would divide the fast one (cause you wanna slow it down) by the slower one you want to get it to.

89.5/86.5= 1.034682 or 103.46%, which makes the sample longer, thus slowing it down.

Thats the quickest for me, at least when you know the length you want the sample to be exactly, but I assume thats the point.

Yeah.

Loop on, looping perfectly, (loop screen of trim)...

switch to "params" screen in trim, adjust "Beat =" til its as close as possible to your bpm (in multiples of bars of sequence), then pitch-shift (usually if it is pitch-able through a range like drums)... or time-stretch (if you need to maintain pitch).

Great post. I never knew you could turn the wheel on that screen!!!

how i'm doing it is: (all in the trim edit screen) make the sample loop perfectly and press loop yes then go to params and see what the bpm says. if its very low, like 12 bpm or what ever just increase the number of bars from 4 to 8 or even 16, this will adjust your bpm aswell.
after that you can go to the time-stretch thing and the bpm should now say differently.
