Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Bold:iLLin Fri Jan 18, 2008 11:58 pm
When I turn my mpc and I go to load my files I try to switch the drive to scsi, but when that happens the mpc just says waiting. In order for me to get out of the waiting window I have to turn the mp off and on again to get it back to normal. anyone got any ideas of whats going on?

does it do the same thing if you disconect the zip and scroll through the scsi channels?

I have the exact same issue, been looking through the forum for a solution and haven't found anything yet. I read somewhere that apparently if the zip drive doesnt have an 'id switch' at the back of it its not scsi and its probably blown the scsi port on the back of the mpc? I have no idea whether thats the case or not, if anyone has any idea or real reason behind the problem and any fixes it would be much appreciated.

I just want to use my zip drive with my mpc 2000 lol. Floppy is turning out to be a bit tedious..

cheers!

No worries. problem solved. Although, you cant 'blow any fuse' on the mpc by incorrectly using a parallel zip drive though right?

Parallel drives won't work correctly, period. Get rid of it and get a SCSI only drive....

Yeah I figured as much, but the thing is its near impossible to find a scsi zip drive here (i live in new zealand) so what other options are available to me as a mpc 2000 user?

Okay, I've managed to find a scsi zip drive, but it says its only for macintosh, so would it be okay to use this with the mpc 2000?

Hi, the exact same thing has happened to me, was directed to the site from Vintage Synth - the drive I had been using suddenly decided to stop working out of the blue and it's got an ID switch so I don't know what's up with it. Any ideas? vkdre how did you solve it?
cheers

I've used the search function and there are quite a few people out there with the same problem but no solutions were really offered up? I would be really grateful if anyone could tell me any more. Sounds like a blown SCSI fuse but I don't know what could have caused it or what I can do now. :) Thanks

Sounds good but mine's only a regular 2000! I hear tell that you can only use the card readers on the XL...?

You can use card readers externally on the 2k classic. Internally requires a mod.
