Repairing the MPC2000 Classic

What up.

This the problem. The numeric (blue) plus shift and enter buttons, I think the F4..seems to be wearing out. i opened the unit up, and it looks aight..i readjusted buttons...outside of that, i can't seem to get the buttons to make contact the first time i push them...

i usually have to push and wiggle the shift button while pushing on the of the function buttons to make it work (ie sample).

any thoughts..?

ps, i did a search..but didn't have luck on this matter.

Also - any other options rather than MPCSTUFF and their prices...like another third party for parts?

I actually had to replace the cursor switches on my 2000 classic a few months back, and it was a matter of de-soldering the 4 current pcb switches and soldering in 4 new relacement pcb's that I got from VST. In total, it took me maybe 20 minutes to take the thing apart and get the new switches installed.

I'm headed to replace each and every one on the board, starting next with my Shift key, which is just worn out. It actually sits almost flush with the top cover, but still works as it should. Just one of those things that bugs the crap outta me, and it's definitely headed for failure sooner than later.

PCBs, new buttons (may as well) a low wattage soldering iron and a solder sucker/braid should be all you need.

Found out in the meantime, that you can prolly get these parts at Active Surplus in toronto @ about 30cents a pop...or you can just take the mainboard out and drop by long&mcquade and have each done for about $2.50...

again, if you're in Toronto...
and suck w/ a soldering iron like me.

this is what i've been told...if it's like this, i'll keep running this 2K. not a huge 1k fan, but to each their own i guess....

Just so i'm getting this right.... is it these things?? That are causing my pain and suffering??? Having the same problem with shift button, I seriously have to put my shoulder into it, to get it working...man, that **** is bugging me too!!!!!!!!!!

Most likely, no, they aren't the issue.

Those are the actual buttons (just plastic) that sit on top of the switch pictured above.

Truth be told I don't even wanna take chances at some Surplus shop...really..

where's the link for the push buttons? i went to VST service..can't find 'em.

Just shoot VST an email - truthfully, I've always ordered through them that way.

I just send an email explaining what I am looking for, they respond (usually within a day) and let me know if they have it, the cost, etc etc, and I respond back with my official order.

After that, they email me my total cost, I give em the cash via PayPal and they ship out my order. Never had any issues, and in fact they are shipping me out some buttons and those switches this morning.

serrrrrious...good lookin' b. i was thinking about moving on to a 2500 or an xl...but i love my 2k classic. fresh, responsive buttons would make things on par again.
