as far as quality, vinyl has that old grimy sound wit it. and cd's are, well, cd quality. you cant cut wit cd's unless you got that cd dj kit or something. cd's cost more. you can always find some old school pimped out classic sounds to spice your beats. BUT wit cd's you can find a lot of crisp drums and tight samples.

other then that im not sure of too many differences. i have used both and had no complaints

agreed. I admit it would be nice for the "quality", but that also whats nice about vinyl, the "qualiTAY" anyways,

You will be a better samplerist, if you use vinyl because there is more obscure vinyl that you can use, so you can get creative, have fun, unlimited possibilities. Chances are if you buy cds, the time period will be limited, and they will be cds that are "popular" and if they are popular you are probably sampling what someone already has. its just not the same, no matter how much you rationalize it.

Half the battle is digging for something cool, and getting inspired by something someone threw away. ya know? (its so satisfying)

not to knock the dudes who do cds. obviously there are some funky ass cds, the only acception to sampling cds, would be find if you sampled the classics, but only if you realize that sampling those means you have to flip it differantly!! the rule is to find what no one has done, wheter its flipping the same sample better, or finding something first. Or taking what someone left behind (i.e. a famous break, but they didnt use a sound later in the song!!!) remember some people have ethics about this stuff.

If i sample something, i try to not use another sound on the same piece of vinyl, unless i really flip it. If i just love the sounds ont he record and im not stealin loops or major parts, then i limit myself 1-2 sound per side. But sometimes thats pushin it. Most of the time i wont find more than 2 or 3 anyways on the record, but its just a rule of thumb-and you cant use those handfull of sounds in the same song, unless its just major bangin shit!!! ya know? or you can look at it like dont take more than 1 loops worth. (So if you where to find a loop, but just from separate pieces).

I have this one record (not gonna name it) i swear to god its the best piece ive ever heard. Sounds around every corner, and im not talkin loops, so really i sample everything on it, but sounds i can use and only mr.supreme would know. and i dont feel like im unethical about it. I guess the best rule to go by is to not use more than 1 sound off a record per song-search on other records.

Peace

peace

not at all. I definately want to learn, cause i wanna dj my beats for the mc i work with. Cause i know i can trow a partyout, but i cant flow good at all-and i wann be onstage. Ive got some freinds that dj, one who enters dmc competions, hypes me up though. Im about to get a good mixer, vestax pro 6 or something. cutting in some nice samples a la dj premier style would be cool too. Kind of puts finishing touches on.

where you frommmmmmmmmmmmm?
im in the milwaukee area. catz around here are lazy beer drinkers who dont get shit done! so im gonna half to dj, produce, and rhyme.

you want a good mixer get a rane TTM-56. You never have to replace the fader and its butter. Vestax hasn't made a good mixer since the first 05/07 pro. The alpes faders they use suk and die quick with heavy usage, trust me you will not be diappointed

eq's work great, and you can monitor the eq change in the headphones without it coming throught the speakers. check the spec

I didnt get to read the thread but its like this. Cd's no matter good or bad are gona cost you a arm and a leg and the stores and sometimes you can find records for 25 cent depending where you look. Sometimes when you sample you may only get a few things and if your paying 13 dollars for a cd is it really worth it, plus some albums never made it to cd or it was a flop and wasnt worth putting on cd but if you had that record you maybe able to find something and turn it to a banger so records are where the hiden jewels are at, and this is coming from a guy who dont sample.
