MPC 3000 pads not working

I have just turned on my 3K for the first time in years & even though the pads show on screen they are triggering I can't here the sample. The sample is there coz it plays on the play soft key. Im sure im being completely stupid..If anyone can help it'd do me a major favour...cheers smooth

Check that you have the sample out the main out in the Mixer section, and that it's not only assigned to a invidual output...
Check also the track volume in the sequencer.

not in front of it now but im pretty sure the sample is assigned to the stereo out, I tried a basic drum beat recording on the sequencer tapping in & it worked after the beat had repeated ie after I'd tapped in. Surely this implies its out the correct channel?
