The 2500's & 1000's are just being built with quality in mind.

By the look of these 2 problems, seems like your running minimum requirements of voltage to your sampler. Maybe you never had these problems before with the 2kXL, cuz it probably had the minimum requirements you were meeting. Electronics in general will act wierd if its not getting the juice, so before you buy a new MPC read the requirements, maybe a surge protector or converter, and allso a battery box would help just incase California goes into a power crisis again you won't damage the machine by cold shut offs...Jus my 2 cents

damn sounds like a defective 2500, but yea, it could be that its not getting enough electricity from your outlets

word? I use the same outlest I've been using for my other equipment. Serge protectors are a must in my studio. I will take this into account though..

In several years of owning my 2500 (purchased brand new)....

1. I had the System Test bug, which was an intentional bug JJ installed prior to leaving the company.

2. My LCD went blank while updating the operating system. Akai replaced a circuit board for free but I don't think it was really necessary since my problem happened when I installed a new OS but no issues prior to that.

3. My 2500 was not level..but it was due to the rubber scuff pads on the bottom of the unit which are easily replaced for $1.

That's it for me......

My MPC 2000 and 2000XL....burned out LCD..very common. Record and volume adjust knobs are really cheap so after many years of use, you will hear alot of static when adjusting them. Also, the floppy drives fail after years of use but are easily replaced.

Thats an interesting comment especially the "intentional" bit.
What do you mean, or what info do you have? The info that 99% of the general mpc public have to go on is this

1:JJ os release: bugs solved within days, sometimes weeks.

2:Akai os release: bugs solved within months, years or never.

note: if 2=never refer back to 1.

I wouldn't accuse akai of intentionally including bugs, but i would say they have done little to resolve accidental bugs within the os's they are ultimately responsible for, irrespective of who might of been programming at the time.

Intentional is correct. Not Akai the company..but intentional by a reported exiting employee...but I guess it's time to move on.

But there is a very good reason why things are happening the way they are. If Akai released an OS every other day to fix bug after bug....it would have a serious negative impact on the company. MPCs would have a reputation of being a buggy products. So Akai releases "official" OS updates on their own terms. The latest "official" OS being as solid as any. Regardless of what people say around here, Akai MPCs are still the standard and there is nothing out there in the same market that will overtake their popularity.

Now in comes JJ. In the "unofficial" capacity, you get OS updates several times a month. By paying a $30 fee, you become a member of an exlusive club which makes you feel you have input into the design of the product. So you really don't mind the numerous bugs and get excited about finding and reporting them. This is brilliant. In stead of the hate mail to Akai for a buggy OS, you get the huge support for JJ for taking on the MPCs OS regardless of the results...brilliant.

By the way..if we are going to talk about bugs that have yet to be resolved, lets start another thread and get specific.

:D WOW. May as well get the JJ OS and move to that forum before complaining. Most issues already are solved over there. ???
