Connecting Multiple Mpc's

For a performance or just jamming oriented session, is there any problem with midi'ing up multiple mpcs (a 1000 and 4000 for example)? Basically i want them to both be on the same bpm and beat without having to press start on them both at the exact same time every time. Just curious if there are any difficulties with this.

Along the same lines, Shadow used 3 (or maybe 4) MPC3000s linked together on "The Private Press". He mentioned in an interview that he wasn't running out of memory (all were fully expanded), but was running out of pads to assign samples to for each track. Crazy shizzz....

The exact answer to your question is:
you need one midi cord between two MPCs and settings from the MIDI/SYNC menu, midi clock signal out from one MPC the other MPC. The only thing is that you have to choose which is the master clock and which is the slave.

You can also hook other hardware, synths etc. to either MPC since the box has two separate midi-outs.

are you guys talking about needing a setup, with a bunch of mpcs, other than in a live environment or to get that live feeling from recording. if shadow and dre have a bunch of mpcs going at once does that mean that their arms and finger are going crazy or what?

Seems like it would be a lot easier to add an MPD16 than another MPC.

cool answers my questions I just hadnt seen an option on the 1000 to designate it as slave or master thought it was just set as a master or something (like i said im an mpc newb) But tried it out and it works fine. We use it so that multiple people can work in the same room at the same time and its fun live.

but 5? damn..

ive thought of adding a 2000xl to my 60 if i had alot of money kickin around.. to sample everything other than drums on the 2k..
but then again i could just get a rackmount..

It's not like his beats are so crazy that he needs 5 mpc's worth of programs to work, it's just cause he don't want to wait for them to load, that's sad... getting paid 250k a beat and he can't just buy a hard drive?
