how do u get THICK drums...?

i just downloaded that endophin and gonna have a fiddle .... i been playing around with the compression settings on adobe audition this weekend as well... but to be honest its hard to exactly tell what the various settings are doing to the audio....

gotta train my ear to the minor subtleties (sp?) ....

Only when your recording. As far as when your working on the MPC, everything should be raw. No effects (unless that's the way you really want it) no eq's, no compression. If you compress before you record and you find that you compressed it too much, you can't 'uncompress' it, and that's why you shouldn't do it.

if you want smooth vox, it all starts with the artist. Then the mic,
and preamp. If the artist don't give a good performance there's
not much you can do unless you a great engineer. Pre amps are vital.
if you want a warm sounding vox, invest in a tube preamp. One

I get thick drums by using an MPC3000. seriously.

two weeks ago i got a pair of rnc's! i m not good at compressin at all, have little experience with compr. (have messed sometimes with others such as the one at my lexicon (which is o.k.) and the one from a behringer virtualizer (sucks), but what i ve seen in the past two weeks from this little things is impressive!

basically i bought them to fatten up sounds and beats and at the moment i m just testing them! consequently in the past sessions i didn't really make music i just made simple beats with for example an 808 bd, simple snare some hats and tweek them through the rnc's! ... a very simple beat to hear what really happens within this compr and i tell you they make a simple beat a real beat and what a beat! i m still amazed: this thing is not only fatten up things. sometimes it seems to me that they change audio somehow - dunno really how to explain it but sometimes its like if they would ad somethin similar to the mpc swing feel, or like fading in and out my hihats around the bd and the snare - simply amazing! thats the positive part of it! the negative one is that at the end of my session once i turn down the compr. i really hear how wack the beat is without them!

what i wanna say: even if it sounds so i really don't wanna make advertisement for the rncs here coz i don't know any others and i also haven't tested them on many things yet (there are many better and more expensive once around anyway) ... but what i would like to ad hear is that imo beat makin with a compr is just ... great!

maybe someone should leave a link or wrote a tutorial on how to properly use compression, to help us that dont know out.

Compression has nothing to do with making a beat.Compression comes in play when you actually mix your song/instrumental wich always comes when the beat is done 100%.

If you "cut out" the drum frequences from the other tracks in your songs, they will stick out more.

You have to use the right frequency from the EQ and you must know how to use a compressor. Compressors can be used as an effect to make phat beats snap-out there at you. If you don't have this combination with good pre-amps, your beats will be weak.
