I need help with Midi in the Mpc 500 & my korg X50

I have my mpc 500 midi connected to my Korg X50

My head phones are connected to the mpc ...I want to sequence thru the mpc basically....

I want to use the keyboard sounds on the X50 without using the input xlr cables...just the midi...

I can't hear anything when i press the keyboard through the mpc...

I think i have the settings right.....

Basically i want to be able to play the board and hear the music straight out from my board to my mpc...

somebody help me please because when i record with the input cables i use a lot of space...

Midi will generate sounds on the X50, not the MPC. You will need to listen to the outs of the korg.

Break down for me if you can, like do i need to do the sequencing through the X50 Korg....or is it possible to still do it through the mpc...

You will be using midi a lot so I suggest you do a fair bit of research in this respect - buy a book, use google, check out tweakheadz etc. However, I can offer the following suggestions:

Midi out MPC ----> Midi in X50
Midi Out X50 -----> Midi In MPC

You will be using the keyboard of the X50 as a controller for the MPC which in turn will be controlling the sounds on the X50. Therefore, you don't want the key presses on the X50 to generate sounds directly on the X50, so turn local midi to off (i don't have X50 so check your manual how to do this).

Start a fresh sequence on the mpc and go to track A1 and select program = off under params. You now need to assign a midi channel to this track - I suggest midi channel 1, you will need this to correspond to midi channel 1 on the X50 - make sure you have a patch assigned to Ch1 that you want to use.

You will need to have the correct settings under midi mode of the mpc - I suggest MPC = master (set X50 to slave) and soft thru to on (although could us "as track" - read the manual).

Now when you play the keyboard, the midi information will go through the mpc and back to the X50. Obviously this can be recorded in the sequencer so you can play it back. Once you are finished recording this track, repeat on track 2 until you are done. the X50 is 16 part multitimbral and so you are limited to 16 channels of midi on the X50 (and there is only one midi out on the 500).

The Korg X50 is just like the Triton LE, just a little bit different and limited...but thanks, i'll let you know if that solves the problem ...You have any music on display let me know....
