whats up im wondering how you guys use ur drums i know some ppl chop breaks and make there own kits, ppl chop breaks but still use the drums in the break to make new loops and some ppl just loop breaks..... basically im trying to see what the advantages are to the different methods you use .peace

You use them differently every time I think. Sometimes I wanna chop it up individually so I have more control and sometimes I don't want to cause I want to keep the original feel of the drummer still.

^ fa sho.

it's different everytime.
i do both, sometimes i just feel like
dissecting a break and sometimes i dont
you can go either way...

advangtages?

choppin - more control
loopin - if the drummer has a complex pattern, YOU aint gotta program that shit! haha

Okay, Nym, My man, not everyone has rhythmic chops like you (I've been sightseeing in Edge City for a few weeks now). For those that wish to loop a break and layer melodies and sounds over top I'd say use the MPC however suits you. The variations of method are infinite. As long as it's dope at the end.

hahah true
see the issue though is this: if the break were an audio track, that is playing consistently without needing to be triggered via midi note, this type of workflow would be a LOT more usable on the mpc.

as it is now, you MUST have played your sequence from the midi note by which your loop is triggered

so if your loop starts at 1.01.00 and your sequence is 8 bars long and you start play from 2.01.00, you will not hear your drums until you either retrigger the loop or til the seq loops back around again.

this kills me. i find this absolutely agonizing, be it a drum loop or a melody loop, to not have the sound instantly there at every transient/changed note/etc. the longer the sample being looped, the more of an issue this is, as you have to wait longer and longer to retrigger. when i first got my mpc, i was horrified that this was the conventional way things were done (back then, there was no chopping on the 1000, by the way!!! imagine my concern)

in a DAW environment, this is so much more pleasant to do since they behave like audio tracks.

also, the current os feature set (by that i mean all the pad parameters) seems to urgesits users to use single sample chops as well, compared to long samples triggered by midi. luckily, audio tracks are getting more usable too, but at this point i'm so bad at that way of thinking that i haven't been taking full advantage of them.
