I want to use the my mpc60 with my 1000.

I want to use the 1000 as a sound module with loads of instrument programs loaded up. I want to use the mpc 60 as my sequencer (I know this sounds maybe stupid but I prefer to work on the 60 because of the arm rest, the pads and it's look...)

Has anybody any idea how I can access different instruments in the 1000 via midi (without sequencing inside the 1000 that is)

ill swap you that mpc60 for a nice comfy chair with arm rests?
ill even pay the delivery on both items cause im nice like that.

Os2 is not multitimbral for MIDI in data. Im hoping that this might come with the Midi in>qreal that jj's gonna add. JJ hasn't mentioned multimbral though so we'll have to wait and see.

That's my man!
I might take you on that offer in a few years, so keep that chair warm for me!

thanks for the info! I wonder if JJ even knows that some idiots like me want to use the mpc like that, as a RAMpler? I guess with all his upgrades he turns it into new machine(s) and people want more and more possibilites...

best,
:D

Because the mpc is internally "multitimbral" i assumed it would be from external midi too, when i first bought it.
Multitimbrality is possible on older samplers with weaker processors, i guess the mpc might be constrained because some of its cpu has to think about sequencing too. If JJ added it though it'd be awesome.

wouldn't you be better off using a different sampler, hard or soft as...well, the sampler in that equation?
especially if you're just using the jjos2 sampler for INST pgms. seems like Reason or any preset cruising sampler would be better/more flexible for that purpose

inst pgms are wonderful and i use them in every project, but i have trouble grasping why you'd want to use them for what you're trying to do as opposed to other, more powerful devices.

If I am understanding you correctly...the new MPC 5000 is the only current MPC that can do this (as well as the discontinued MPC 4000).

The midi IN on the mpc is great (records sysex, sysex program dumps, cc, anything I throw at it). Just wish it had multitimbral IN from what ever's sending data to it (cubase!) so the mpc could be a do-all for when I want to use a pc or other multitimbral hard/soft sequencer sending data to it.

In the meantime though it's good practice not using the computer and learning how to fly around on jj os. Also good to learn about the economy of only 32 voices and workarounds. One of those limitation leads to creativity things, i hope.

damn, the MPC doesn't do this? I always assumed that it was functioning that way but I never tried it

this is something that really needs to be added I think

I think being able to trigger programs externally via a particular midi channel is very important

are you saying that it wouldn't be possible for me to put a drum program on channel 1 and a piano program on channel 2, then split the keyboard of a midi controller so that the left half plays on channel 1 for drums and the right half plays channel 2 piano? that's ridiculous, and I think that should be at the top of the feature list for OS2

"assign midi channel to program"

that's a good way of phrasing that.

haha dvs, your gumption makes me wonder how you possibly lived without this feature so far!

additional note of interest, this would mean MAJOR things for the implementation of midi cc => qlink.

it doesn't even really need to be program to channel, just track to channel

does the channel setting for a track only apply for midi out? I always assumed it would work both ways but is this not true?

I'm going to test this right now...

Ok, so as of right now it appears that this doesn't work. I had on part of my keyboard set on channel 1 and the other on 2 and two midi tracks set accordingly as well on the MPC

the problem was that while track 1 and 2 would send OUT on their assigned channel, the way that the tracks receive on whichever channel is specified in the MIDI/SYNC screen -- 1 through 16, or 'ALL' on the option marked 'ACTIVE TRACK RECEIVE CHANNEL'

any particular track only receives MIDI in when it is active, when it is inactive it only sends MIDI out.

I wish this was changed so that you could set a receive channel on a track by track basis, even if the track was not currently active.

However, changing this might not be possible as it seems that to do such would be making the MPC able to record to multiple tracks at once, and I don't know if this is something that the machine would be able to do.

Although maybe it could be implemented while still leaving the recording half of it out of the picture -- this would let you use the MPC like a rompler, though for sequencing you would still have to record one track at a time as usual

Multi-track simultaneous recording would really be the way to accomplish all of this, doubt that is possible though

thanks, dvs, i meant TRACK
the concern is that it'd be a large move to not only be able to control multiple programs (via multiple tracks) with incoming midi, but also to be able to record on multiple tracks at the same time...that's my concern, i could see that being a many-month can of worms

at the moment we can control the volume, pan fx etc from one track via the track mixer, so there does exist some element of control of all tracks from just one input point, whether MIDI notes and CC's can be distributed in this manner is another matter. but it'd be damn cool.

dvs..when i bought my mpc i though it'd do exactly that, midi channel assignment would be in and out. I should have learnt my lesson really cause the first time i used an mpc2000 classic i was convinced i should be able to play different programs on different tracks.... man im greatful we can do that on our mpc's!

MPC 2000XL can record 16 MIDI channels at once I believe.

The MPC 5000 and 4000 can be used as external multi-timbral sound modules.
