mpc 1000 and midi.

Hey,

I not sure how mny hours i've given to my MPC 1000 over the past month since purchase but put it this way..i dream in tracks and sequnces.

I'm still struggleing really & i wondered ...

I have a Yamaha cs2x which is connected via midi and through my mixer.
All is cool and i can record my keyboard onto my mpc, but when i want to add
a new sound from the keyboard the old recorded sound on the mpc changes to the sound i,m selecting. So i can only work with one sound.

Is this the normal or am i missing a trick here.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but i have scratched my head and need some
help.

Is that think monophonic? meaning, can you even play more than one sound at a time?

It is the D'mode yes.its multitimbral i think?

Could you advise wht im doing wrong ? Its rubbish to only have one sound to work with from the keyboard to the mpc.

just checked the manual (which i have read)

It says the cs2x has:

"A built-in TO HOST terminal plus HOST SELECT switch permits direct connection to an IBM
PC/AT or Apple Macintosh computer without the need for any peripheral interface hardware.
Multi Play mode allows for multitimbral play of up to 16 different Parts (across 16 MIDI
channels, when using an external sequencer) with 64 notes of available polyphony."

I dont understand this hugely btw. Does this mean the cs2x should play different parts?

Yes, you can turn midi on each track of your MPC on and can choose one of the sixteen midi channels. When playing back, you can use/hear up till 16 different sounds. If your synth supports this. I don't have a CS2x but most synthesizers have a switch between performance and multitimbral mode.

As for your problem: looks like your MPC is sending a program change to your synth, switching the sound back.

You are going to control multiple voices via multiple midi channels.

First, read keyboard manual...

Find out how to assign each voice to its own midi receive channel, so the instrument will only respond to midi notes on its own specified channel.

Next, make sure your MPC's Midi track is sending on the channel you want to control on the keys... i.e. midi track 1 (sending) on channel 1A (out) => Voice/Instrument 1 (receiving) on channel 1 (keys) (in).

...(repeat: midi track 2A MPC sending to keys instrument 2)...

you may have to set your keys to "receive MIDI on instrument channel" or something similar, instead of receiving on base channel (which would be channel 1).

I got it sorted i think.

My cs2x now plays upto 16 xg sounds.
