The problem I have always had with audio tracks is that it seems that the voice of the sample is mono. What I mean is, picture that the audio track sample were used in a regular program -- there are voice settings for either MONO or POLY, where mono will cause the sample to cut itself off when re-triggered and poly will allow the sample to overlap itself.

Even in OS2 I find audio tracks completely unusable as they always cut themselves off!

I would like to be able to use audio tracks to record synth parts. Rather than create multi timbrel setups on my hardware synth, I've always found it faster to simply record the part to MIDI, and then record that as an audio sample and lay it in the track.

I wish I could use audio tracks for this but each time the sequence reaches the end you can almost always here a very defined stopping point of the audio track. For instance a lot of times when using a synth patch there will be a very long decay that will be audible even as the first notes loop back.

When I lay the samples into a program I can keep their voice polyphonic, so that when the sequence loops back to the front you can still hear the tail end of the sample playing (this of course uses 4 voices rather than 2 for the brief moment of overlap). When using audio tracks you can always hear a click or abrupt end as the sequence cuts off the tail end of the sample. It always sounds poorly looped.

So what I'm asking is for audio tracks to have the option of being polyphonic, i.e. the samples can overlap itself. This would let you record a sample that is longer than the actual sequence, and maintain a decay at the tail end of the sample that will continue to play even as the sequence loops back to the start.

(Unless there's just something I'm missing)

does this still happen if the audio part is shorter than your sequence loop value?

I can't make a test now but what happens when you record your audio track with loop=OFF then putting it back ON. Will it overlap?

No, that also doesn't work

The only way that I know of to keep the tail end decay is to record in the RECORD screen with loop off, so that you catch the tail of the midi part, and then add that to a pad and program it into the sequence.

I think the problem is with the way that the samples are played back, not with how they are recorded.

The one thing that the audio tracks can do though is mute in and mute out at any point in the sample -- I would love to be able to use this, but the way the samples cut off them self when using an audio track has always made them useless for me

side note: can I apply a LPF to an audio track? I have yet to figure out how

always the same problem : you have to integrate the audio tracks in a program with manual workarounds.

direct record would solve this problem. i still don't know why it's yet to be implemented.

: you can by adjusting the input thru function.... you can add fx and 1 filter on it

I was actually hoping for more along the lines of Q-Linking a filter to an audio track

so there goes another way in that a sample on pad has much more functionality than an audio track - if only they could mute in and out without being re-triggered
