because all are tied to one another in ways we cannot see and few of us (not me) understand. well, i take that back, i glean a little bit of what's going on--most recent 2 bugfixes involved TC swing. first, TC couldn't be applied to a track AFTER it was recorded (1-record track, 2-apply tc, 3:bug TC not applied). fixing that created the opposite problem (1-set tc, 2, record track, 3-BUG TC not applied)
why, then, one might ask, was the code released before this flip flop bug was fixed? well, how else was i supposed to find it? the other option (which isn't really an option so much as an executive decision from above) is to have me test an os before it's released, which would just delay release ("batch" updates, as software companies may say) by at least 2x. plus, how many bugs might i/other frontrunner testers miss that others scoop up almost instantly?
the minority view on this is that "add one feature, mess up one feature"
the reason that is the minority view is because 99.9% (that includes you) see that progress has of course been made. if jj was truly just "treading water" well, we'd still be stuck in 2006!
the first two are bugs that i reported yesterday, that last is unfamiliar to me
better have em fixed than not have em at all, today i'll be seeing what else i can find while getting work done
stan, we're not truly waiting on those functions as they were never promised...though i agree 100% regarding "zoom." i very much dislike hitting SHIFT+UP/DOWN in TRIM, but then using UP/DOWN in CHOP. this is an inconsistency.
i made a suggestion back when this new/old specification was changed (shift+up/down to zoom) but never heard back, so i presume there are other, more important things to do. meanwhile i do more "trimming" in slice since you can specify start/end point of slice 1/last slice there
as for change grid resolution by changing TC, this is certainly not gonna change because of the following reason: the old way, turning TC off made either GRID EDIT unusable. though the current way presents a visual problem for <16th notes, the problem is mostly visual. they can still be edited easy enough from this view. ideally, in the future we'll see 16 pad grid turn into something more like midi grid edit, which is really a more advanced version of grid edit to begin with. i am still not sure why midi grid edit is only available for MIDI tracks GRID EDIT is the default of DRUM tracks...all should be omni-accessible IMO
i imagine we'll see some change in the display of GRID EDIT in general in the future, hopefully taking inspiration from MIDI GRID EDIT. MGE behaves the way that 6pad does/did, in that you could EDIT individual notes and change their duration, velocity, placement, note number (pad)...alll things that one would WANT to edit in 16grid but currently would have to more into 6grid or STEP EDIT
