backlight life expectancy

I got my MPC complete with a new backlight from Forat. Is a new backlight as bad as the original ones from akai? or can i free myself from worries and turn it on all the time?

It's the same technology, so I wouldn't expect too much from it. Maybe they are newer generation foils which last a little longer, but I wouldn't count on it. Average lifetime for those type of EL foils (the time after which they are only half as bright) is about 5000 hours. I would post a diagram of this, but I cannot find it anymore...the brightness gradually decreases with usage.

Depends on how often you use it. But sounds about right.

Your backlight is bleeding into something else in the MPC if it's that loud.

I was told by an electronic engineer that the EL Foil's should last a VERY long time. Like 10+ Years , its all depending on how well the original designers of the mpc i assume roger linn developed the machine. Alot of the time the EL foils burn out fast because they are getting to much current. He explained it in alot of detail but 90% was over my head.

humming backlights are replaced bl's with wrong parts.
try getting proper parts when replacing. the right foil is the way to go
