What to have External SCSI set to?

Hey peeps,

Just got my 3k and trying to save a program and sequence to my external scsi drive.

Questions:

01.On the back of the SCSI drive there are two black switches what shall i have them set to, The right switch says SCSI ID then has the option of 5 or 6 then the left swtich has the option of Termination or off-0?

02.Also on the back of the SCSI drive are two SCSI slots what one shall i have it plugged into? The one called "ZIP" or the one with the symbol?

Such dumb questions i know but coming from a 1000 its a different world.

What slot do you have the scsi cable plugged into the drive as there are two?

I don't think it matters I never had any problems.

Ok after a couple of hours of trying i still cant get it to work.

Basically here's what i've done.

I've come out of the SCSI port on the back of the mpc into the SCSI zip drive but have plugged it into the ZIP SCSI port. I set the switches to as you said "Termination "ON" SCSI ID #6". After that i then go to the mpc hit DISK>9.COPY, FORMAT, OTHER>4.SCSI STATUS, MAKE SCSI DEVICE ACTIVE.

Then at the top it says Staus: No SCSI Device In Use

So it then asks me down the list what address number do i want to choose to make it active or the choice to have it on AUTO, so i leave it on AUTO. Then when i go to hit MAKE ACTIVE after a few seconds it takes me to an Error screen.

I can't work out what i'm doing wrong. I'm using a brand new zip disk aswell do i have to do anything like format it even though it's new.

I'm really confused as to why this isnt work. Would much appreciate if anyone could help.

Just tried that dude, just says "No SCSI Device was found"

You have a zip in the drive right?

Nah you should just have the Termination on the back set to "ON"
Set SCSI ID to #5 or 6
MPC should be set to the ID# 5 or 6 not Auto


I would try it again and see my 3000 would sometimes not work the first time I tried to get it to recognize my SCSI ID and then I would try again and it would work but if you get a error message post what the error message is.

You MPC might be picky and that cable might not work cause that's what happened with my 1st 3000 it would not read the drive with the cable that came with the zip drive so I had to get another one and it worked fine.

Hmm it's the IOMEGA SCSI ZIP lead?

Good. In this menu the "FORMAT" option will be of use.

The DISK needs to be formatted by the MPC3000 before you can "MAKE IT ACTIVE".

Have you formatted the disk with the MPC3000 yet ?

I have gone to format the disk but it cant see the SCSI drive to format it.
