I don`t think doing pads yourself should be that hard, the gum is available at stores, building a mould should be harder.
a glow-in-the-dark paint might be worth looking for.I know revell had one for their ghost ship models...but if it`s useable with gum?no idea....

Hey that looks very tight dude ! Didn't go with glossy in the end ?
Personally i don't even think you need to change any button or pad color.
It's like it was meant to be like this.
Starting to wonder why Akai never released a black 2000 (xl )
Those ventilation holes must have been great fun to cut out ;)
I wish the Xl had those holes. They look cool.

Maxillaa i can't tell from the pix, are the LEDs still exposed for all buttons?

Was that from Style Flip?

This isn't helpin me get mine done. :(

Totally can't decide now if I still wanna paint or not.

I'd say first go with vinyl !
You can always decide to paint later. But you'll like vinyl i'm shure.
It's been said before: you could change the design every month !
Costs are close to nothing.
And with vinyl you can just 'drill' out the holes for the leds with a screwdriver or something. No problem.
