Having a sample play (with the pad) in a 'loop' mode

Hi,

I'm new to MPCs (I have a Kurzweil K2600, Yamaha RS7000, and a Roland SP-202) and I have a basic question...

On the K2600 and RS7000, I can play a sample and have it LOOP. I know that I can at least do this by holding down the sustain pedal when I am playing a sample. With the SP-202, it has either a 'One-Shot' mode or a 'Loop' mode. In 'Loop' mode, when I press a sample...it loops until I press it again.

My question is this:

Is there anything like this on the MPC-1000? I noticed that when you go to the TRIM page, you can set a Loop Start and Loop End point. If you press 'play sample' or something like that...it will loop. It seems like if there was a loop editing feature on the machine, there would be a way to play a loop...

The only way I have figured out to do this is without playing a pad. Instead, I have had to use a Sequence. To do this, I would have to record myself playing the sample once...then adjust the tempo so that the sample would get to play all the way through and then start all over.

looped samples need to be turned to note on in the program.

after you hit the pad, the sound will fade out when you take off your finger.

there is a trick to make samples to loop round continually though:

1.turn on loop.
2.turn to note on in program.
3.hit pad and hold your finger on
4.press numeric key
5.take off finger
6.sample should loop round and round til you hit the pad again.

with jj os you could go to trim (mode+PAD6) select the sample with DATA-wheel turn looping on and go back to main... now it'll loop till you release the pad.

"note on" needs to be selected for that sample for this to work.

So, my question in regards to both of these solutions is this:

Will this only work for one sample at a time?

Will I be able to basically mute/unmute several looped samples?

If I can have them loop...will they get recorded into a sequence if I desire? In other words...without having to have the tempo sync'd to the length of my sample?

You can have all the samples assigned to pads looping and push them simultaneously

When you have samples looping like this, the tempo doesn't matter, it's the length of the sample that counts.

My basic question is if I would be able to have the MPC-1000 mimic the behavior of say the Roland SP-202. When I say this, I mean (for performance - in other words, me hitting the pads), can I...

Have 4 samples, with various lengths (like 1 sec, 2.67 sec, 5 sec, and 4.3 sec). Have a sample play - the 1 second one - (and loop) by me pressing one of the pads and then letting go (not having to hold it down).

THEN, add to that by pressing the pad assigned to the 2.67 second sample and letting go. This sample should also just sit there looping.

THEN, repeat the process for the other two samples.

The above situation happens no matter what the sample length is. Each sample just loops its own length.


The next part (mute/unmute) was asking if I could then have the sample STOP playing once I press the pad again. I suppose this would be sort of like Ableton Live, except that there is no attempt to match tempo with anything.

So...if all of that is possible (I hope so) - my other question was if my enabling and disabling the playing of the samples (which are looping) could be recorded with the sequencer...just like they are when they are not looping.

Your answer seemed to indicate that it was possible to:
1) Assign samples to different pads
2) Have the sample playback looped, instead of just once
3) Play several samples in this fashion at the same time

Would I have to have the pad pressed down continually? If so, wouldn't this limit me to pressing ONLY pads that are in the same bank?

i would love to know if this is possible too.
Just create a song with muting/unmuting and changing effects etc. of the loops that are playing, without the need to create sequences and put them to a song.
