Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey Folks. First post for me - sorry it's a question. I'm experienced with finger drumming, but new to the MPC world, picked up my 2kxl last week. I've got a strange problem with mine - I trawled thru a lot of pages in the search, but couldn't find an answer, so I apologise if this has been answered here already.

Here's my trouble. Often all the pads on the MPC retrigger and play two hits instead of one. The hits are about 50ms apart, I'd say, and the problem affects all of the pads. The pads also double hit when 16lvls and full level are turned on too. The double hits are recorded into the sequencer when timing is set to off and when the resolution is on the highest setting (1/32). The pads all respond fine otherwise, I've got no velocity or dodgy pad troubles.

I've had a look inside, but to be honest, I know jack about the mechanics of the pad membrane, not afraid to get my hands dirty with it tho, if anyone has a suggestion. I've fixed other gear b4 and I do a bit of circuitbending so I'm fairly competent with an iron :)

I'm gonna pop down to kinko's and get some boot discs made up, coz my OS is only 1.06, see if that helps. Hope the next time I post I can help someone else out instead of begging ;)

The double hits are because your fingers are not familiar with the
pads just yet. It's you, not the pads. Once you get used to the pads, you will
be able to bang on them perfectly. Your letting your fingers rest on the pads
after you hit, learn to hit the pad and get your fingers up off of it afterwards.
Don't rest on the pads.

Also go up to os114 = 2kxl.

Thanks Lampdog! Seems to have helped a lot. I must've got sloppy banging on those triggerfinger pads for 2 years. I went up to 1.14 and I've been going through the manual, learning the basics. The timing on this thing is insane. So much tighter than using my triggerfinger and ableton. Absolutely no latency at all. My brain must still be expecting the 12ms I always used to get. Now all I've got to do is find a card reader from somewhere - mpcstuff and the others are too pricey - plus i'll get stung on duty bringing it into Japan :(
