drums on 60 samples on s950?

me and one of my homies were gettin into an arguement the other day that drums should be in the s9 and samples in the 60 but i said it should be the other way around. i think drums in 60 samples in s950 but i could be wrong. any vets here wanna shut one of us upppppp? it doesnt matter wahts in what really but we need a case closer here

na. You should do it however you prefer.

Why limit yourself to a fixed sampling rate when you could make many different sounds with the S950.

I think it depends on which machine you feel more comfortable chopping your samples...I feel more comfortable for samples on my s900 and drums on the 60. But best of all samples on my EPS+ is the shit.

I used to use the 950 for drums and everything else in the 2k, but I've recently switched round and now everything non-percussive goes in the s9, and (obviously) everything drum-wise goes in the MPC.

So I guess it doesnt matter

I always felt that you can use the s950 for the drums and the filtered bass and play the regular sample melody on the mpc

If your comfortable getting your samples chopped in your s950 use that over the 60. The filter is just PRIME on bass and samples. Drums sound good enouph in the 60 remember the 60 is still GRIT!

I just bought an S950, and it should be here any day now.

The reason that I bought is cos of the editing it can do to my samples (non percussive).

You can filter, timestretch (which is kinda basic sometimes) and of course chop!!!

I have the newest OS on the mpc60 but no memory expansion yet. Still, there are no filters and i wouldnt use filters on my drums anyway.

When I sample a bassline on the mpc60 Id have to filter it through my MFC42 which is also cool but i can sample clean in the S950 and filter it out later on "some" cases.

I really like the 40kHz sampling rate on my mpc60 and the compressing option can resample my drums in a lower rate. I use that mostly for the sound and not for freeing up my memory.

There IS an issue about memory though.

I bought the S950 cos I consider it as an EXPANSION to my MPC60.
Memory wise AND quality wise.

There is nothing wrong with the MPC60 quality but in some cases I want to have my drums running on my mpc60 and the bassline and melody samples on the S950 so I can sample them on a lower sampling rate. Maybe main samples from 11kHz to 20khz depending on the feel that I want and sample my bass even lower if i can. I personally find it very attractive for me to mix a low rate sample and try to put some high frequencies out when it sounds so gritty. But again, thats just me.

You can even use the s950 for ALL your stuff if youre doing LIVE PERFORMANCES and keep the mpc60 as a sequencer. Have all your sequences and songs loaded in your 60 and load each time your samples on the S950. Maybe Im wrong but i think he S950 can perform and load the next set of samples at the same time. I guess I got to wait and see for myself!

So you can do it either way but in my opinion if you got general samples and drum samples, FOR ME its kinda odd to have the drums on the S950 and the general melody samples on the mpc60.

After all the mpc60 IS a drum machine and to respect that you should give priority to drums when it comes to sampling.

PS: I already hooked up my MPC2000 with my Kurzweil K2000rs and use it like I'm gonna use the mpc60 wih the S950

I want to trigger sounds from my 950 with the sequencer of the 60.

I used to know how to do this but I forgot since I have been using the SP1200

How do you go about doing this. Can someone give me a quick walk thru.
