Optional CDR-RW thoughts and questions

I just purchased the optional CDR only to find that with the new JJ OS 5.0.4 (Which is the S^&T) GET IT!! You can only save samples to CDR. You can not save ALL, PGM or Seq info. Unless im doing somehing wrong....Now, you can sample from audio CD which is HOTT! just cant save song data, just samples...Your Thoughts??? Is JJ planning an update for this....YOU CAN SAVE ALL, PGM and SEQ data to CDR on origional AKAI OS(Cant render Audio CD in AKAI OS))..So hopefully it can be implemented in the JJ OS.

Also, The ability to render audio CDs in JJ OS to send off to labels and play in the car to test sound quality would be the BEAST!!!! It would be outstanding! Cant render your songs to audio CD with the optional CDR as of now...There are work arounds. (Resample entire song as wav, send to PC, load in CD authoring program, Burn CD)

This would truly make the 2500/1000 a full stand alone work station..I am doing entire songs...beats, chords, strings, vocals, effects, mastering all in the box with the JJ OS.. I do have the internal HD, CDR and 128 Ram installed. The ability to save the songs to CDR and render an Audio CD would be Incredible! True One stop shop! Hit it!

Load the Akai O.S. back in the unit and use it with the CDR for a couple of days and then see if you have any complaints.
The CDR is limited in both O.S.'s not just JJ's.
Also you could look at the Akai manual to see how the CDR actually works to do a comparison.

absolutely all props to JJ as stated in the above post...(Its the s&^t go get it!)The OS is Bangin! just hoping they will implement the ability to store sequencer and prgram data on CDR. On your recommendation, Did a bit of research, The current AKAI OS is limited as well when it comes to the CDR. Again, just a shout out to JJ......The ability to render your final production to an Audio CD and store your final program and sequencer data to CDR would be great.

Could someone post here some cd drive models, which should work with MPC2500? If I'd like to buy something else than the original AKAI cd drive for the 2500, what models are there that work?

(I searched for a topic that would have had the answer for my question and I didn't find one, that's why I'm asking)

The Akai OS gives you additional options to save to CD-R over the JJ OS. However, you cannot make DATA CDs with either OS only audio CDs.

The MPC 5000 adds the ability to make DATA or audio CDs. So I am still hoping that these features will make it to the MPC 2500 with a future OS update...Akai or JJ.


As far as using other CD Drive models....I would simply stick with the Akai branded CDM-25 which works. Other CD drives, you will have to modify and then prey that it works. If you want your MPC to work flawlessly (if that is possible) stick with the drive the works. But if you still want to try other drives, you will have to spend some time using the search engine here...I looked as well but couldn't find the thread.

it seems like it would be a possibility to me in the future. since my research has told me the 5k is basically just like the 2500 and 1k

i burn beat cd's on my 2500 and listen to them in my car all the time

Who the **** in their right mind would pay $200 for a CD-R drive? Sorry, it really just makes you look like a tool if you have it. Last time I checked, I could pick up a $10 CD-R drive on NewEgg, that's if they even sell non-combo drives (i.e. having DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW) which go for about $30-1xx

Someone's about to post "blah blah blah it's worth it blah blah blah" and defend Numark for their poor builds and crappy software.

no i'm gunna say good for you for not getting one if thats what you decide on your own. and bad for you for judging others. tisk tisk it sounds like you need to take a big dump now.

You would honestly pay $200 for a CD drive? Come on.

The $200 drive is worth evey penny. I have one installed in my 2500 and will install one in my 5000.

No..I don't sell drugs. But I couldn't see myself complaining about a $200 drive for my $2000 drum machine.
