"TRACK VELOCITY wasn't ever intended for use as a mixing, as it actually brings the VELOCITY down (velocity, NOT level) which will have a drastically different rresult depending on the type of pgm you're using (velocity->filter) or what external midi device you're using (velocity->tons of functions). that's why it still exists in SEQ EDIT. "

dude , maybe for you it wasnt intended ... are you sure YOU know what "they" intended ;)

i often use the 'full level' button combined with 'vel' to get a quick beat up and done with....just like to work faster...

yes, jackymurder, i am sure. VELOCITY does not equal VOLUME, caps for emphasis not rage. if anything, honest to gawd TRACK LEVEL should be accessible from main screen the way TRACK VELOCITY used to be.

can you think of any problem that would exist if the V% on the main screen was put back?

depends on where. there's no 1 screen where folks record their midi. some do it in one of the 3 grid modes, some from mainscreen, some still even in step edit. in the main screen, there's not much physical space...i'd post the actual image itself, but...well...click the link and you'll see:

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2/main_2e.htm

things would have to be juggled and squeeze, main screen is already POPPIN as is. BUT YES, i would certainly like a very small TRACK LEVEL (for TRACK tracks) and GLoBAL LEVEL (for PGM tracks) shortcut in there somewhere. it'd reduce my workflow by all of 2 clicks and i'd like to see other things first, but i sure wouldn't complain to have it knawmeen.

more musings on "TRACK VELOCITY" as opposed to "TRACK LEVEL:"

accessing track velocity from os1 was only "convenient" if you record from the main screen, which isn't everyone. that said, for many many, it was an equal distance away as say, GPE (and what is now track mixer). even if one was recording in main screen, it was still no more convenient than GPE--unless one was sequencing w/ cursor hovering ever over TRACK VELOCITY.

another point: it was also problematic because the TRACK VELOCITY filter only applied to recorded notes, not pads in live performance, which all but killed the ability to preview pads at correct levels after mixing w/ track velocity. TrACK VELOCITY was a POST-RECORD effect, as opposed to a PRE.

very true.. for this reason alone i prefer track volume..a value on the main screen would be nice though.

i just installed 1.05. let me poke through things and take some notes in the main screen here...

i'll be damned, look at that
i'm checking to see if anything pops up there, or if a message is displayed
i doubt that real estate is unused
the same sized-wider bar on the left below TRACK NAME is where MTC/mmc status is displayed...maybe something similar occurs when a setting is on...

also, moving the cursor to that spot would be the same/even more of a hassle than getting to TRACK VELOCITY was...in this case it's <^<^<^ since most the time your cursor will be somewhere round the middle

best place IMO would be if it could be jammed somewhere in the "loop, 2nd, PC, MIDI" column but i don't think there's room for it there...

one blindingly simple solution is when midi cc => qlink/qreal/mixer is implemented, one could simply assign a CC to LEVEL and not worry about having to curse around looking for TRACK LEVEL

Nym wrote:but in the meantime i use Reaper on my laptop to "sample" midi from my mpc, edit it via all these effects, and then route it back to my mpc. that way i get all the stuff i did w/ these effects actually recorded back as midi i can then edit further on the mpc...!!

good thinking!

curious: do you run into any latency issues with this? are you recording the processed midi back into the mpc in realtime as the track plays, or you process it & then record it back later with everything synced up?

reaper looks cool but i'm on a mac. one day i'll have enough pennies to get one of the nice new intel mac laptops that dual-boot mac/windows.

i'm doing a little of both, but in a very simplified form compared to what i will do once i buy Energy XT so i can use those plugs i linked you too...a CC remapper???

let me get back to you, i'll make a detailed post relating midi effects, i see a LOT of stuff going on in the future here

yes nym, thanks for your attention m8 and respect for your respnses.

a track level instead of velocity in the main screen would be completely wicked, i agree . anything to control levels easy without sacrificing the ability to effect individual pads, and without having to edit the pad levels in the program itself in MODE8...

i notice in MAIN screen you gotta press 'shift' to get to TC , EXTRA, and InTHRU... i think it would be wicked to substitute the 'VEL (or LEVEL)' parameter for the CLICK on F2, and put the CLICK into the 'shift' menu with TC.... who messes around with their metronome as much as they mess with TC or Levels....? even to put the parameter available with a 'shift' to get to it wouldnt be too bad..

but i was thinkin - why not just allow control of track volume for a 'pgm' in the track mixer??

that way we can send out to individual fx from pads inna drum pgm and still control track levels...

ahhhhhh, IMO those are superb ideas, both of them, jackymurder. very good thinking.

i have heard from more than several forum members that "CLICK isn't something that has such "front page status" as it is currently given. i agree--i only access CLICK 1 time in my beatmaking process, and that's when i turn it off after my main groove is set. by comparison, TRACK LEVEL, however, is something i'd be all over. will give me more reason to record semi-blind in MAIN screen rather than delving into MGE all the time

but i was thinkin - why not just allow control of track volume for a 'pgm' in the track mixer??

i address this fine point in the following new topic: i think you'll like the solution i come up with...
