Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By orjanbeats Wed Apr 02, 2008 8:22 pm
I have a Iomega 250 mb zip drive that I tried to connect to my MPC 2000 XL. I have the termination set to "on" and the scsi id set to "5", and I am connecting it via the "zip" port. I go to the load menu on the 2kxl, but it wont read the zip disk (it wont format it either). It just says "Type=???????". Ive used a Iomega jaz drive with the 2kxl earlier, and it worked perfectly, so I dont think its the scsi port on my MPC. And Ive connected the zip drive to my computer with no problems at all, so I dont think its the cable or the zip drive either. Im having a hard time isolating the problem, could anybody shed some light on this?

Thanks

SCSI is sometimes real fussy.
Only thing I can suggest is:Try another disk, Try another SCSI cable, Try another drive. In that order till you get something to work.

SCSI cables are often the culprit.
Sometimes a 250 drive doesn't like 100 disks

Sorry can't be more helpful.

I know that when floppy disks are bad on the 2000, they are read as "????"

I think the zip drive is acting up. I connected it to the PC again, and then it wouldnt read. The zip drive powers up and everything, and the lights are flashing. But the PC wont read it, it doesnt show up in My computer at all.

They are cheap enough on ebay to try another.But.
They don't last forever.
A card reader would easily replace your floppy drive and be more durable.
