time sig

what time signatures do you cats use, and whats better about any particular one, do you get a better feel with using 16ths as opposed to 4:4

you mainly wanna use 4/4 for hiphop, for other styles of music switch it up... like jazz uses 3/4 for the swing feel.

I could be wrong, but I think you're getting time sig and quantize mixed up.

4/4 for hip hop mostly but 3/4 and 6/8 (very similar) work well.

a lot of diplomats beats that the heatmakers do are in 3/4 or 6/8

i did a slower beat at 71 bpms in 4/4 but i used triplets so it could also be faster bpms in 6/8

you can use other time sigs for breakdowns and what not too.

i may be wrong, thats why i asked
i usually jus used whatever sig gave me the length i wanted before the pattern looped, i was jus wondering about the more technical aspect of it

your talking about tempo...not time signiture....tempo is the speed of the song while time signiture counts the beats in each measure.

Time sig has nadda to do with resolution. Quantize and tempo do. All time sig means is how many beats there are in one bar. So in 4/4 time the top number means there will be 4 beats in one bar. The bottom number means beats will be counted in quarter notes. Likewise, in 6/8 time there will be 6 beats per bar, but counted in eigth notes and so on. If I were to take a guess, I would say that 89% of all recorded music is in 4/4 thus the name "common" time (written as a "C" with a slash through it).

thanks, i knew about the beat per measure thing but i didn't know about the notes, like the top being beats and the bottom being notes, so with that said

going with 16ths instead of quarter notes won't give me better control of the feel?

i don't know, i guess i jus wonder what they are for and if it will help me, the best way is to experiment,
