Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Db75 Wed May 26, 2004 11:11 pm
i need more memory for my MPC, i want to max it out.
i'm not sure if i should risk it myself, you know i obviously don't want to break it,

but i was wonderin if anyone here has done it themselves and if it is easy or not.

Yeah.. No carpets under your feet! Also remember to touch something metal, like a pipe, before you get to work.

It's pretty easy...don't be scared. I maxed out the ram and installed the eb-16. It's just like upgrading a PC. Just make sure to ground yourself and don't force anything in the wrong way.

My auto-upgrade:

32 MB RAM
Internal ZIP 100MB
FX board
8 outs (Akai S2000 board :x )

No functional problems ;-)

so to "ground" myself...what surface would i need to stand on, if a carpet won't do it?

Sit at a kitchen table or buy a static wrist band. But on the real, just touch something METAL occasionally while you work on the MPC and that will keep you straight. PS. Don't get carried away, just every so often touch a screw driver or something.

i chucked my 8 outs in without no earth strap, after i did it, my MPC actually crashed for the first time ever. I freaked out - thought i'd f~~d it, but na turns out it was just a freak crash, never happened again and the 8 outs work fine.
good luck
ess.

I installed the 8 outs board and the 32megs of memory dont really need
the effects though I make crazy effects it was pretty easy I would like to
have it fully blown though but I'm good for right now.

You could kill the simms.. they're really fragile!

be careful how you put the mem simms in, i almost craked my motherboard!! got got to slide them in at an angle. plus destatic yourself.

By not grounding yourself, you run the risk of a static charge which can fry the memory card or the 8out board you're holding and also potentially any other board already in the MPC. You wanna ground yourself, trust me.. I once fried a brand new video card because I wasn't grounded and on carpet. Stupid me, never again.

Memory expansion, 8 outs, effects, zip drive, all fairly painless. Please work in a clean area, no carpet, clean hands, with a shot glass on hand to hold yer loose screws. Don't be afraid.
