Sampling Pc to XL

I recently bought an audiophile 2496 from m-audio. I have no problem recording sounds from my mpc into cool edit pro, but I can't seem to get it to work vice versa, anyone know what i'm doing wrong here?? I play a sound i want to sample on the pc, but nothing comes up to sample on the mpc screen? I have an rca cable in the right record in on the mpc, connected to the outs on the computer if that helps anyone help me. Technology has sure been whooping my ass lately.
