quote from jj´s site:

"Since there are few buyers of OS2, cost is increasing.
Although I feel sorry, the price is raised from April 15 of Japan Standard Time to US$ 49.00. It is the same price as OS2 of MPC2500."

so hurry hurry yall...

and btw: i´d love to hear the full story of akai vs. jj this betatest guy mentioned in the 5k subforum. anyone got any information on this?

that sucks. even tho i still consider that a bargain for OS 2, it's unfortunate that JJ isn't getting more buyers.

i think there is a (correct) perception that the OS is still beta, and that some people are sitting back and waiting for a more final release.

i also think there is some confusion between OS 1 & 2. we see it all the time here in the forum where people come in and ask all of the same basic questions over and over. people don't understand the difference between the 2 OS's and wonder why they should upgrade. some of the advantages of OS 2 are not as easy to understand for some people. i myself wasn't too excited about it until sat down and spent a good amount of time working and realized how much more i could do with the OS.

I really think JJ needs a better website (& translator) as well.

It's not surprising that people ask the same questions over and over relating to OS1 and OS2.

The reason is simple.....the documentation/manual and JJ website suck.

It doesn't help that OS2 is so radically different from OS1 (different interface and workflow).

Don't get my wrong....I love the JJ OS but the entire upgrade process and documentation of new features is terrible.

I am on OS2 now. The stereo and non destructive chopping are the features that enticed me.

Right now I'm thinking of going back to OS1 becuase I am finding OS2 too hard.

Maybe I'm not as smart as everyone else but I do appreciate a manual when learning complex tools such as the MPC.

To sum up.....JJ needs to improve the documentation. Big time.

And to realize I thought people were excited enough to buy it all along. OS2 that is.

akai vs. jj? I thought akai was cool with what he was doing.

This is my opinion only, but I feel that JJ took the new OS in a direction that I don't really see the way I make beats needing. I'm certian that it is better and gives you more, but some I just don't need or even know that I need them.

Even with OS1 some of the live implementation stuff (simult sequence for example) was imo getting away from the studio aspect of the 1k. So I have 4.92 I think and I'm really happy with it.

folks said the same thing about os1
and about "new os" when it first came out

os2 is best described as a return to the basic principles of sampling, ones that are factory-neglected in what...7/8 mpcs? unfortunate. keep a species in a cave long enough and they no longer need their eyeballs to survive knawmeen

don't let akai trick yall into believing that Decay=Release, or that the sampling alphabet stops at A-D

i have been waiting for the os to finish. to me it's not very clever to change the price of an unfinished product. i think jj should stay cool and just wait. there are enough people who are willing to pay for his os2. but it need to be finished or at least bug free so i can really use it. it's just not stable enough for me to use it live, so why sould i pay for it right now?

Just like I thought that OS1 was worth the price for GPE alone, I think that OS2 is worth the price just to have ADSR envelopes.

All the other shit is just bonus. The new main screen is great, and so is non-destructive chop mode. The fact that you can very quickly set chops that have overlapping regions is dope

Yea, I admit that individual ASDR envelopes probably would enhance my sound a bit, and I am intreagued by non-destructive chopping. Does the new OS have some sort of dual boot option where you can switch from OS1 to OS2?

yes

just hold tap tempo while you turn it on and it will change the default boot setting to the other os

Well, I was kind of struck by jj's marketing logic, that his was like: "well, not enough users are buying it, I need to make it more expensive" and "that's just what it costs for the mpc 2500". The latter argument doesn't hold any weight, but for the first, I think that's totally the wrong direction. He is working on that thing anyways, if he's selling it for more or less, doesn't make a difference. I think one of the reasons people were not buying it, is a psychological one: spending 29 bucks goes easier from hand than 39 or even 49. Simple as that.
Another thing to get new customers interested in his product would be, to offer an OS bundle. Instead of 29 plus 49, I think he could easily sell a lot more of OS2 if he also make a bundled price: OS 1 & 2 together for less than 80 Dollars. It's the old get-both-today-for-less-routine.
But the current strategy might rather lead to a stop in development than selling more OS2s.

PS: I like that new layout, it's stylish... but I miss the Off-Topic thread :(

EDIT: Oh the Off-Topic Thread is back...nice

raising the price isn't a wise choice. i've yet to buy os2, because it still seems full of bugs. making it more expensive really isn't going to make me rush and buy it... this is kinda lame actually... this is only going to make less people interested if you ask me.

if they want to sell more... what they need to do is drop the price to $30 for like 2 weeks or whatever to sell a bunch of copies... then raise it back to $39 or whatever... that would work out better for them.
