Aftertouch?

The manual for my 2000xl says that the pads are pressure sensitive - is that the same as aftertouch?

also, is it possible to add aftertouch to a sequence in step edit, by adding an event? would this be 'ch pressure' or 'poly press', and if not, what do these events represent?

just to say - i realise aftertoch doesn't apply to internal sounds. this is for use with a midi sound module

yep its the same as aftertouch, it does work with the internal sounds, if you put on note repeat and pump the pad in and out, youll hear the velocity change.

It's not recorded as aftertouch, but as velocity.

You can insert pressure (aftertouch) data. Poly pressure means 'per note' - which is very useful, but the module/synth that you send it to has to be able to recieve it. Very few do.

Channel pressure works like a normal MIDI cc - all notes within that channel respond to it.

so if u can turn the aftertouch off (on a synth) does the sound stay at the same velocity no matter how hard you hit the keys (or pads)?

On a synth, velocity is still velocity and aftertouch aftertouch. If you 'switch off' one, it will not affect the other.

The MPC records it as velocity data in conjunction with the Note Repeat button, and does not do traditional aftertouch directly from the pads.

aftertouch comes in after the velocity stage. an example of using it might be to introduce some modulation by pressing the key down harder. or to increase the effects send on a given note. you can basicly use it for anything if your synth has a decent mod matrix.

you could think of it like a footpedal for each key, that you must pump with your finger.

check the modulation settings on the micron, you may be able to use it to modulate things like the filter cutoff, envelopes, or fx.
