Broken MPC1000?

Just got an MPC 1000 off ebay, unpacked it, turned it on, had no demo songs so i had no way of testing the sound but after 2 hours of playing about I can't make the thing make any **** sounds

plugged headphones into headphones out stereo & 1/2 & 3/4 but all i could hear was a kinda distorted sample that sounded like it was at about 1 bit quality

Did a factory reset and now it doesn't play any sounds and the screen's contrast is really bright

help me pleeease mpc users, i have no idea about these things, I have the feeling i'm doing somthing really simple wrong

Check your pad sensitivity and master volume in MODE/Others

this obvious but hey, make sure you have samples... you might just be triggering nothing. record something and assign it to the pads. and as check rebellions tips too.

read the manual... learn how to make a PROGRAM in which you assign samples to pads. then try playing around some more. it won't have sounds ready to go as soon as you turn it on.

and if you don't have the manual... just do a google search and you'll find a PDF version of it in seconds.
