Tracking Question

So, this may be a newb question, but here goes. Is there a way to record a track that will only record a single pad, even though I may hit more pads while recording?

Basically, what I want to do it play an entire beat (kick, hihat, and snare) live while recording so I can get the feel, but I only want the track to record the kick. Can I do this? Is there an easy way to extract the kick?

edit: forgot to add, I am using the 500.

Record your Kick on one Track, then you can track out that Track alone.

I recommend to spend an afternoon with your manual and a good cup of coffee.

ahhhh...I think the afternoon/coffee combo may serve me better than the evening/beer combo that I have been trying.

I know how to put a kick on track 1. But, I am trying to get the kick while playing other pads. I want to be able to hear the snare while playing live, but not have the track record the snare.

pretty sure you can't do this.

you can just play the part, record snares, then delete em after.

After you lay your beat simply hit the undo button, scroll till delete, and select the pads you want to remove. Voila!

I getcha meng, and for a while back in the day I wanted to lay it down the same way. Now, basically, I just tap the side of the mpc or even a blank pad on the sounds I'm not trying to record. So say you're laying down a kick and have that natural inclination to also hit your snare, but you just wanna record that kick - just tap your finger on the side of the mpc or a blank pad on the snare hits.

It stuck with me - been doin that ever since.

Thanks for the replies. I think the approach ghostlywit suggested will work best for me. And DJ Six, I like your idea too. Simple, but gets it done, the thing is, some of the time I am going to be triggering from an electronic drum kit.
