proud owner of 2000xl

Hey everyone I am the proud owner of a used MPC 2000XL as of yesterday. I bought it as is and it has a 30 day warranty so I want to make sure everything works. It powers on and we put some samples in and recorded in the unit but it only holds about 10 seconds of samples. It has the floppy in it and it want load the sounds either. it says (unable to read files. I want to make sure that it don't have any major problems with it before my 30 days are up how can I get this checked out is it a way to do that with a troubleshooting technique or something any help would be appreciated. This is my first post so if I am missing something like a introduction page let me know. Thanks

You probably only have the stock memory of 2MB. That can be expanded to 32MB.

Where did you get the files from? Did you sample them and save them to floppy with the mpc?

Could be that your floppy disk is broken...Or that the floppy drive is almost about to die...

Try sampling something and save it to a floppy disk. If that fails, try a couple other floppy disks.

I wouldn't worry too much about the saving issue cause you wanna upgrade to a card reader anyway as quick as you can.

Where are you from? There might be some service center near you where you can have the unit checked...

I would question the format of the samples on that disk, so as mentioned above, where did they come from? Did you sample into the machine yourself and then save these samples to the floppy, or did you put sounds on that disk using a PC? etc


If you sampled into the machine yourself and saved those sounds to floppy, then try to load those sounds up and get an error, the floppy disks/drive is suspect....however....

You have an XL there, so an upgrade to an internal card reader as well as expanding that memory to the max 32mb would be two really good ideas.

Thanks for the congrats and the advice. I had it checked and everything works (what a deal). I order the 32 meg upgrade and installed them but only getting 18 megs. I reinstalled and the same thing happened I just don't understand but, happy none the least. I will be upgrading to a external cd-rom soon. I am just learning this machine and will be posting up some beats that I made. Anyway to hook up Roland XV-2020 directly to the MPC 2000XL? Thanks

Congrats man ! For real, that machine is a classic ...my only recomendation is getting the CF card reader installed and the extra ram. with regards to the 8 outputs board I personally have found the Stereo outs on the MPC 2000 XL to sound better... don't ask why, and others may report otherwise.

...and as a side note... I just bought an MPC 2500 and sold it after comparing it with the swing/groove on my MPC 2000 XL ...so if my opinion means anything... go figure!
