Can't get sound out of MPC4000. Help!

i got the 4000 - the white one
the main outs are dead - the phones dead
i opened it up - all the cables seem to be in their place

also the computer doesn't recognize the MPC - i tried with the drivers from the site

when i boot it takes like 3 minutes at least to load the OS - (I get that nurse that's tapping till she hurts her foot) - and i can't rewrite the OS because the computer doesn't recognize the mpc

bottom line - a lot of **** up shit! if you have any ideas you're welcomed
(and i should mention also that alot of times when i start it up i get a black screen - plus all the leds on it stay on)

A couple things you could try:

* Remove the ram inside the machine, if it behaves properly then then get new ram sticks.
* Unplug the hd and cd-rom see if that makes any change
* You can update the OS via the cdrom, not 100% sure about this but I think so, someone else could confirm this. That would mean you dont need the computer to recognize the mpc to update the OS.
* Unplug everything you can internally and replug it, even the screen cable

Im sure someone else in here can come up with some more suggestions.

Yes, simplify & troubleshoot by removing all the extra stuff (RAM, IDE hard drive / CD drive... does it have any expansion cards in it either?)


Where did you get anyways? if it was a shop, take it back!

You can update the OS via CD-ROM, the instructions used to be on the Akai pro site...

I got the effects card and also the 8 outputs.
I bought it from a guy who told me in advance it had problems (that sometimes when you turn it on it gives you the black screen- but it work ok for a while and i got used to that / i just waited a while and rebooted and it was ok - but now this is pretty **** up)
I should also mention that I'm from Romania and nobody knows shit about MPCs here - there are only 2 more producers owning a 4000 here so there's nobody to turn to.

I will try again unplugging the whole shabang see if i get lucky. I'm in the point of giving up because i already tryed all this at one point. Now i'll just have to try all at the same time.

While you are poking around, be sure to check EVERY wired connection on the PCB boards (UNPLUG POWER FIRST). Mine did something similar with the screen going blank and rebooting until I found a cable from the power board wasn't seated properly. I've read of other people fixing theirs from other various connections like this.

Not sure about the audio issue though, have heard of some people needing to get their audio board replaced, but that would be odd to have that and the headphone/usb board out too unless the thing got fried.
