problem w erase button

I can't find any place this has been addressed before (maybe because I'm missing something obvious) but here is something I noticed about os2 that I'm not thrilled about. An important part of my workflow involves recording my drum sounds one at a time while my looped sequence is recording. On os1 I was able to hold the erase button and press a pad at the time I wanted the sound removed from the sequence. In the new os it plays the sound AND records the data instead. I know this can be handled in the main screen grid mode, but I prefer doing it on the fly with my sequence going. does anybody know if this has been removed or replaced with something more convenient?
