Maxed out meory?

I just bought an MPC 2000XL. I bought 250mb disks for the drive. I recorded samples and made beats already. But now I cannot record anymore samples in the MPC. When I go to the sample menu, the record option is not showing up. I dont know if I have been saving in the internal memory or if something else is wrong? Can somebody help, it's slowing me down. Thanks.

press the open window key and that should let you know how much memory is left for recording.
I suggest purging any sounds/pgms that aren't being used for the beat you made. Have you upgraded your RAM, yet?
You should operating at 2mb if you have not/bought it brand new. If not, I suggest upgrading to 32mb. Its not hard. 16mb sticks x2.

Will the purge erase the sounds off my Zip Disks? Also I think I have tried that but it instructs me to "do it" meaning the purge. However, there is no "do it" option. This may be dumb, but why would i need to upgrade the memory if i am saving everything on Zip Disks?

that memory is your workspace, the disk's are your saving space. The less memory you have in the XL, the smaller your workspace. Purge will erase the samples loaded/recorded into the memory.
just a thought, does your mpc have the flash rom in it? I dont have the flash rom but if you have it in it, the mpc could be reloading your last sample that you recorded.
