Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Wassup everyone. I have been using my old drum sounds and need to do some layerings cuz they sound so thin. More specifically for the kicks. I usually just use 2 different kicks to layer. I make sure they are in tune. But...

I wanted to know what everyones take on the values for the MIDS (middle-end freq.) on the MPC 2000xl...unlike a mixer which you can turn the knobs, or an EQ to use the sliders.

Around what value does everyone use to get the MIDS : Frequency and Resonance for that thick/fat kick regarding layering drums?

Ive def. use my ears all the time for that but...just wondering...

Peace ya'll

Aite...thanks.

Ive just came across an old drum kit CD that I made way way back then and usually nowadays I would def. EQ/Compress/etc my drums first.

But id like to practice on my layering.

Thanks in advance to all who posts.

Kicks: filter 90/resonance 0 and a second same layer with filter 0/res 9.

For snares/hihats filter 95/ res 3-4.

NOW GO PRACTICE WITH YOUR OWN STYLE NOOB.

hahaha  @ kebzer

Yes and now like you I WILL DO THAT TO ALL my kicks, snares, and hats. I want to be just like you.

Im sure you were basing your perception of me as a "noob" from the number of posts ive made OR the question itself. Either way you dont even know me.

Probably went above your head but i asked this question as a general idea to everyone's quick tip...layering mids, highs, and lows aint no secret homie. But maybe I worded it wrong, maybe i shouldn't have said the EXACT value:

So....what I meant was...AROUND what valueS (or range of values) does everyone think makes a MID thick for kicks?

"stop biting while im rhyme writing, you aint said nothin'"-Abstract Rude

I aint here to bite, just trying to learn more AT WHAT VALUES can we begin to separate low from mid from highs on the MPC's feature for freq/reson.

OH ya and your (kebzer) 'values' are the extremes of both high and low frequencies. THATS def. NOT the mids. hahaha. TOO HIGH AND TOO LOW DONT necessarily combine to make a mids...idiot.

And please, I hope you dont always put those values to ALL your drums...
And if you dont like sharing ideas/secrets to "noobs" why put out an answer anyways...makes you look very hypocritical...and ironic at that sense.
Dont worry I promise not to bite your style "Hip Hop Mother Theresa"...hahaha.

So again, Ill admit to have worded my question wrong and I stand corrected.

peace ya'll.

Oh man, somebody got offended, lol!

Believe me son, these values ain't no extreme at all. If you know your game as you claim and know how to layer those drums correctly and not simply place them together straightforward, you will end up with fat kicks, crispy snares and hard hitting hi-hats.

My only bad is that I forgot to state that these values are good for boom bap only. Dunno about other styles and don't give a **** actually. However, it all depends on the choice of drums. If you try to apply these values to an 808 kick you will def end up with a distorted result. Same goes for a weak stick.

And no, I ain't a Mother Teresa but fo'sho I know my game and not need others to compare/contrast. All I need is my 2kxl and time. The rest comes from the heart and only. You should do the same rather than trying to act like a fool against someone who actually gave you a full view of what values can be applied out there.
