Floppy problem with ma MPC2000xl

hey, i hope yall can help

heres tha thing i baught a mpc 2000xl off ebay. the person said the drive wasnt working but i thought it would be all good, i would have to just change the drive. after i change the it i realized it still aint working , it keep saying no drive found and i tried a bout 4 different drive and i'm sure there good. could anyone tell me how to stop this problem.

What kinda drives you tried? Do they have a jumper block on the back? Not just any floppy drive will work with the mpc 2000 (xl).

Always try with different floppy disks as well.

My advice to you? Forget those floppy drive problems and get a card reader right away...

to be honest i have no idea whats a jumper block. But i tried using a lot of different floppy drives. i even used an old computer i have to load some samples unto a floppy disk, remove the drive from the cpu, tried it in the mpc with the same floppy disk and still the same prob.

i do plan on getting the card reader but it might take awhile the fact that i'm in Jamaica. I did tell a friend of mine about it who brought his to a place in Miami and got his mpc changed to the card reader and wow it is so much easier to use samples. So i'll change to the card reader soon but i want to use the floppy now.

so if you can give me steps on how to fix this prob let me kno right away.

First of all a jumper block is like a square or rectangle on the back of the floppy drive with pins and normally some plastic thingies. Those plastic thingies are called jumpers. New floppy drives don't have that anymore. It was a way of configuring a floppy drive on hardware level.

Floppy drives without a jumper block probably won't work in your XL.

From what I recall it's the Drive Select jumper that needs to be correct to work in older akai gear.

Post up the different models and model number of floppy drives you have. With that information I might be able to help you if it's not some kind of weird electronics problem.

I am having problems with my zip disk. Everytime I put the zip disk in the 2000xl it just rejects the disks and ejects it out. Does anybody know what the problem with this is. Thanks.

@OP - Just try moving the jumper to each position until it reads if you can't find documentation. I'm sure of those drives uses jumpers. I have like 10 FDs in my attic (some only a couple years old) and they all have jumpers. If you could find an old Zip 250 drive, you'd really be doing well until you can get an MCD.
