heh whoever made that video clearly doesn't know what he's talking about...!?

you can't damage your mpc w/ poly overload

...unless he's talking about maxing your polyphony (32 voices) by playing too many sounds at one time. this isn't "damage" it's just an (unfortunate) functional limitation

with high releases, long samples play to the end. unless the pgm is in mono mode, this means that voices will add up as you play more overtop, or if you have other parts of the song going on. this isn't to say you can't/shouldn't use high releases.

it's just like stereo samples, or poly playback - you can and SHOULD use them, but if you don't HAVE to, don't do it, in interest of saving voices.

for the record, when he talks about "release" in that video, "release" = "decay" in os1/akai os.

in the real world, in REAL samples and real synthesizers, decay does not = release. release = the time it takes for the playback volume to drop to 0 after you let go of the pad. what decay REALLY means is how long it takes the playback volume to drop to the sustain level after the attack.

I seen most of the vids if not all, and they are all very helpful for beginners. Im still debating on whether to upgrade... i mean with all the bugs i should just wait until its stable.

btw why do i have to purchase both passwords for os1 and os2? can i get a package deal lol?

oh and nice beats, i seen them in the other threads.

It's good you are clearing things up because "release" has never equaled "decay".

MPCs are drum samplers that typically don't have "release" only "decay" like old school drum machines. However, the MPC 5000 and MPC 4000 supports ADSR as does the latest JJ OS2.

but wouldn't you say that the former's DECAY functioned more as we more commonly call RELEASE? with the clear exception that w/ AD's "decay" you can actually "shorten" the sound. i interpret AD as if S is always zero, which negates R. since D is by default all the way up, Duration in effect becomes your Release.

complicated to describe without pointing to things. an in depth talk on ADSR could take up several youtube vids...
edit, check yo PMs

if you're using the 1000, it's a green light.
i can't speak for the 2500 cuz it's in somewhat early stages.

it depends on your comfort level and interest, and how busy you are. personally i see making bug reports and workflow reports helpful in the long run both for the actual OS and for my own understanding of things. others prefer to buy into a more or less finished product.

to really see how something works sometimes it's nice to see how it DOESN'T work (but of course sometimes it's also irritating as ****)

your call.
and for the record, i support the idea of a "package deal" even a very small discount
but at the same time, there's a hell of a lot of hard work put into both those os's, and for the software you're getting inside the mpc, $80 or so is anything but prohibitive.
