patch phrase help

ok im sure your sick of me but hey... i havnt hit my mpc in many eons.. so bare with me

patch phrase...

seems the idea behind it is to be able to shift tempos with out any major deviation in pitch or fit.
i followed the youtube tutorial on how to do it. but... for some reason im getting big gaps in between the slices when i play back at anything but the original tempo.
any idea on whats up? am i missing a step?

heres what im doing.

chopping, going in and editing the start and end points manually to make sure there dead on, converting to patched phrase, making sure the tempo is set to what it should be and the tail is at 10. converting.
putting the patched phrase into a program. and playing

The gaps are there because the sample is sliced. You need to experiment with the release value. The release value destructively timestretches each slice, the more you want to slow the sample,the more you have to set the release higher. An alternative is to timestretch the sample on your computer first if you dont like how the mpc timestretch sounds.
There are other alternatives, depending on your goal,cause you cant do much tweaking to a patch phrase once its done. (Check Nyms alt loop videos for other ways to extend sounds )

i was chopping up a pretty intense break , im going to try it on something with more dynamics and less chaos.

they could patch phrase out of my mpc & i wouldn't miss it 1 bit.
