Another muting problem

Hello,

I'm playing live in 2 days and have a small problem.
When playing around inside a sequence in track mute mode the MPC remembers my last mute settings the next time i revisit the same sequence.
Is there a way to "write protect" a sequence so that the next time i go to it it show my initial mute settings?

Press overdub+play start when you are in the track mute screen, when recording starts a track mute event will be written for each track, according to the current status.

Great tip.. but then it's hard to play around inside track mute screen since everything will return to "default" every time the sequence loops. (I use 4 or 8 bars in every sequence only) It would be perfect if you could get this default muting to occur only when I "enter" a sequence, not when Im inside it and playing around.

There's an option in the mute screen to 'record track mutes' (I think you need to press WINDOW to access it)- turn this off and it will not record track mutes while pressing pads in the track mute screen

sounds like you've already recorded some though by mistake while having o-dub enabled in the track mute screen. go into step edit and delete any unwanted track mutes and you should be good to go.

I think you're missing my problem here. I'll try to explain a bit better (english is not my main language, sorry if I'm hard to understand sometimes)

This is how I use the MPC live:

I use 8 different sequences for every song. Each being a part of the song, like 1-Intro, 2-buildup, 3 break and so on...
For instance the break sequence contains one bassdrum-track, one bassline-track, one for hihats etc..
If I then mute, let's say the bassline and then change the sequence to the buildup-sequence and then back to the break sequence again the bassline track is still muted.. since that is how I left it earlier. It would be great if it went back to how i originally programmed it and saved it.
And using recorded mutes won't work since it will unmute or mute itself again everytime the sequence loops, and believe me, I can stay on a breakdown for ages

you can turn recorded track mutes on/off with the "Use events:" parameter at the top right of the track mute screen

switch it on if you want the mutes as recorded, or off if you want to improvise mutes.

alright I get it now, and I've got a good idea (I think at least) for a solution

set up your song sequences like so

Seq01 - Break sequence
Seq02 - Build-up sequence
Seq03 - Break sequence (copy)


Alright, so the reason I say put a copy of the break sequence right next to the other break sequence is because in the copy of the break sequence you will go into STEP EDIT and insert a track mute message ON (or maybe it's off, you can figure that out) for every track that contains information in that sequence at the very beginning of the sequence. So, for 8 tracks your first 8 events in the sequencer should be track mute instructions telling all 8 tracks to unmute themselves.
That way, when the track loops back to the beginning, every track - whether it is already muted or not - will be unmuted at the beginning.

So then now that you have that, you start with Seq01, which has absolutely no track mutes at all and do your mutes real-time as the sequence plays. Then you switch over to Seq02 for the build-up sequence and when that is over switch to Seq03, which will play the same as Seq01 but with every single track playing. When you want to start using track mutes again, switch back to Seq01 which will be exactly how you left it and you can continue to mute tracks as you please without them unmuting automatically when the sequence loops back to bar one.
